Ok so I get everything done, baby went to my dad's for the weekend, the wife is excited for her first traditional car show, (she hates new cars at car shows and will even ask the owner WHY DID YOU BRING THAT AND BRING IT INSIDE, ITS A NEW CAR AND THERE IS NOTHING DONE TO IT). Anyways I worked day and night the last few weeks, got all the bugs worked out, drove the truck around town about 10 times got up to 55 or so checked everything, ran great, had a little vibration but I could deal with it.

We packed it all up and were headed out, had plans of staying in Lockport at a friends instead of a hotel.

The wife was so happy, she started to take pics of us leaving and going to take more on the way.......

Soooo then we get going, fill the tank, get some ice for the drinks and away we go. We leave Davenport and the vibration is pretty consistent at 65 mph. I was ok with it, I was too excited to get to the Hunnert to let that stop me. Tonya asks "Are we going to make it?" I say back "If we can get to Leclaire (10 miles away right on the border where I80 crosses into Illinois) then we can make it all the way." Well lets just say I spoke too soon. As soon as I said that we started down a small hill, I look back and WHITE SMOKE EVERYWHERE. I push the shifter to Neutral, then look for a place to pull off. After p***ing some road work barrels I pull over, the truck dies on the way over so Im a little worried at this point.
I walk around back and see this....

NOT GOOD. So I pop the hood and find one of the ****** push lock lines have completely come off of the ******. The ****** just shot out all of the fluid right onto my exhaust and down the I80.

Well this is about how I feel now, I hadnt even made it out of the QUAD CITIES..
Tonya was still happy though, she said if we can't make it to the show, we still have a babysitter and lets make the best of our weekend,
    [IMG]
So called a buddy, he brought the trailer, loaded the ****er up and put it back in my garage. I checked and ****** still had fluid and motor started right up at home. No permanent damage just yet. Im going to buy a new trans cooler, I was trying to use an old one and save some $$ since I had spent so much in the last month. Well I learned a valuable lesson, DONT SKIMP ON NECESSITY, oh and ******s have a very high PSI rating.

So I never made it to the show. I figured if i can't get there with the truck it wasn't meant to be this year.
If you look real close in this picture you can see the LECLAIRE water tower, God hated me for saying "If we can make it to Leclaire we can make it all the way."

Maybe next year. Ill have it fixed today and ready for the next meet.

We went haunted housing instead!!! and I drank a 40 oz of Budlight, yeah a 40, I wanted something to make me laugh.

You know, it still made a great story. You are a success even in failure. And oh yeah, your wife is a perfect "10." Just enjoy the nice weather this weekend and make the best of it.

Chit happens. Fix the truck and enjoy it with your wife later. BTW....Povertyflats is right, she's a '10'. Good lookin' girl like that who digs old cars and hangs out with the likes of us is perfect. We both have it pretty good.

  4. yup **** happens hopefully you will make it next year , if you was closer down here you could have snagged what you needed off my truck ..

Cool read. Nice that you have a understanding/supportive wife that seems to enjoy what you're into.

Cool truck and a hot wife. You have it pretty good, even with a minor roadside stop. I gotta say, I'm in the same boat. My old Chevy truck needs a transmission, but my girl is hot and my beer is cold, so life ain't too shabby :D

thanks guys and to make it worse my phone had the reminder that today is the Hunnert so when I got up it started ringing about the Hunnert. Damn

I did give up early but its only because she offered up a better time than continuing on. We have a one year old and dont have babysitters often, I work third shift and I dont sleep with her since Im at work. Lets just say my night turned out well either way!

Im going to get the parts not and get out there to fix it. If it was me and the guys going we would have fixed it and continued on. There is always next year. Im out for now, off to the parts store and then garage to get her running again.

Your wife is beautiful and seems to have a really good at***iude. Anytime I'm with a girl and the ride starts acting up, they always piss and moan and say girl things like, "Why don't you just get a new car?" Good to see there are some good ones left. PMA bro, you seem to have it.

Dude, I think my ex-wife rode in my truck 3 times in three years. To see a beautiful woman smiling while broke down on the side of the road, I just have to say you don't know how lucky you are. And to still have an even better time with your truck home in the garage? lol.

dude you are sooooo lucky, beautiful wife, not getting upset about breaking down and supportive of your hobby too. Also the truck is not bad looking either, always loved the 3 windows for some reason.

I heard there were a few breakdowns on the way... sorry you were one of them. I talked to Cleen Rock 1 of the Bare Bones and he drove out from Las Vegas... but his clutch gave out in Nebraska! I think he took the BUS the rest of the way!

American made hose clamps are much less likely to come loose.
I've never had one come loose.

The cheap **** no name foreign made **** clamps, that sell for the same price,
are MUCH more likely to come loose when you need them. Had that happen on two cars.
