Sears and the military go way back. General Wood was head of the Army Quartermaster Corps and brought a lot of policies and procedures to them to help their supply lines as they grew. I know that back in 1972 during the Hurricane Agnes disaster they replaced eveything that the employees and families lost in the the flood with new Sears items. Furniture, carpet, appliances, clothing etc. They were the country's number one retalier for most of the 20th century and never bragged about it and local managers were REQUIRED to be involved in their community.
In all thats going on in this country, this is great to see. Our service men and women not only need this kind of support, but dam well deserve it!
Darn. i thought this post was about veterinarians like me! I buy Craftsman,so I guess I'll just keep doing so. I just wonder how those vendors at Carlisle, Hershey and other shows can always have big bins of new Craftsman tools they sell cheap. They look like the real deal to me. Does Sears sell wholesale? Did these things fall of the truck?
I'm a 60's draft dodger...joined the Army for 3 years so I could choose my MOS. Couldn't see being a 111 dog face. I only wish Sears stocked NITRO, now that's something I really need!
Now you have me thinking about buying more tools. Since next Tuesday is Veteran's Day, this weekend is a good time to buy at Sears. VN vet - 1971-72
Thanks to Ryan for letting this go!!! As an ARMY vetern of 11 years it always warms my heart to know that the general public actually supports the service men and women who continue to defend our nation.... ....this is a welcome change from the day I returned from Vietnam..... . Time for some new tools!
I've always used craftsman tools, the best bang for the buck if you ask me. It sure looks like I need some new ones!! Maybe I'll even find something for my wife at Sears. Thanks for posting this and thanks Ryan for letting it go.
Cool as hell..I'll support that. Besides all of my christmas lists have had sears tools on them for years Thank you Vets , Thank you Sears, and Thank you Ryan
Having worked for Sears their control procedures are way too tight for that quan***y to "fall off the truck." My guess is they are counterfeit from the Orient. Anybody ever break one and take it back to Sears for replacement ? If anybody can tell them apart it should be the Craftsman folks.
Oh, I'm sure WAL MART does the same thing, Right? Seriously though, not many big retailers show this kind of commitment to our service folks. That rules...
Makes me proud to own Craftsman tools, that's for sure. I'll tell my in laws to give me a Sears gift card this year for X-Mas instead of Lowes. Hey Glenn, with all due respect, I'm not sure you are qualified to replace a hose. We had to have a blind guy run your plug wires, remember?
First off Thanks Ryan for letting this post run I do appreciate it. If you check back in my earlier post you will see that I added a link to Sears policy on veterans Benefits they now cover for 60 months of active duty! I guess you could take this as an attempt to advertise for Sears but that WAS NOT my intention when I posted this I just wanted everyone to know that they support our guys and figured we should let them know we appreciate the SUPPORT of our troops. I have nothing to do with Sears other than buying Craftsman tools Myself. Coming from a family with several decorated veterans it was my soul intent to Support them Again Thank You Ryan and thank you all for the kind words

They look all the world to me to be identical. I didn't see anything making them seconds, but I have never held one exactly side by side with the same thing from Sears. Given the general attention given to customers by the sales force in the tool department at sears, I be they'd never take the trouble to look too carefully, just give you a new one.
Thanks Leon. Being a Vet, it makes me proud. I guess I'll have to let them back inside the circle of trust....
I guess that I will have to buy a few tools a sears for christmas....It is nice to see that some people in corporate america still care about more than just the bottom line.............
I've known this for quite a few years, my mother is retired from Sears. They take care of their non-military folks too. All of our major appliances, our out door Kenmore grill and the majority of my hand tools/chests are from Sears. My son wanted a plastic "tool chest" dresser for his bedroom, when I saw the cost, we went and bought him a REAL Craftsman tool chest for a dresser........ in a couple years he can move it into the garage instead of the trash.
Sears also owns Wester Auto parts stores (or did several years ago). Do they also own Kmart, or is that just a deal where Craftsman tools are sold?
looks like fowarding this e-mail to any walmart management couldn't hurt, like about 20,000 times. any other retail establishments wouldn't hurt either.
Hats off to Ryan for letting this ride. With the state of our nation we some GOOD news once and a while. I did not serve but salute you who did. A great big hats off to Sears I did not dream they did so good. I'll go buy something even if I don't need it.
I think they sell "seconds". I bought a 1/2" combination wrench (sure looked like a genuine Craftsman) at a local swap meet, but the open end wouldn't fit on a standard 1/2" nut (the box-end was OK). A little work with my grinder, and everything was cool. Was kinda' surprised when i first tried it, though.
Home Depot and Lowes do this every Vet's Day weekend, son and I (both vets) wait to buy the non-essentials until this weekend to splurge...They require a DD214 or other proof of military service in order to get the discount.
wow. get over it guys. just stop posting please. As a veteran and soon to be deployed again, I appreciate the gesture Sears is showing. As a business student, I'm sure there are other motivations on this move. Businesses just don't give away wages and benefits to simply "do the right thing," but I don't care. Better to pay wages to vets directly so the vets can then pay taxes (but then buy more car parts) rather than Sears paying taxes to the gov't. . . who pays salaries to vets/soldiers. or something like that. I have brain injury from the first time over. Iraqi Whisky. Just smile. Golden Corral is giving veterans free dinner on Vets Day, so is Applebees. And all you HAMBers who support YOUR military, God Bless ya.
heh speaking of craftsman, i need a 3/8's and 1/2 torque wrench a screwdriver set and some more allen heads they will definatley be getting my business!
Sure you weren't trying to make it fit a 13mm bolt! Haha! Both the HD & Lowes in my area do it EVERY DAY. Granted, we have a base here, but still. Lots of places in town give mil discounts here in Albuquerque. Yes.
