Here is the sport coupe I bought, being brought down on saterday. For the most part I plan to keep the body chassis as-is get the banger running strong with a Mallory model-b Dual point, C-head, header intake. and take it down to Alvord for a run before im deployed in June. Dilemma, I love the sport coupes and need to find a pair of door tops for this since they are long missing. Do you figure I have decent odds of finding a pair that have been cut off for that Coupester look?
cool... I've got most all of the body pieces for mine rounded up now... minus the "ark of the covenant"... in other words an original decklid if anyone has a 28-29 5-W roof they'd like to part with... let me know. i'm picking up a 30-31 roof and quarter section this weekend and would be willing to barter a trade for it of some manner. keep us posted... maybe we need to start a "show us your sport coupes" thread
"keep us posted... maybe we need to start a "show us your sport coupes" thread" And how bad ass it will be. just give me acouple months!
ive been staring at one for sale online for a long time. debating if I really need it...lol congrats and nice grab.
Very cool...I would make a post in the want ads here in the classified section. I'm sure someone has posts
Well, I'm actually getting ready to chop the door tops off of my '29 Sport Coupe, contact me if your'e interested.
You guys should trade doors. Count me in, in the '28-'29 Model A Sport Coupe Club. I love mine. I will love it more as it moves from basket case to more of a car, in 2009.
Nice score...I have a buddy here who has a lot of nice stuff stashed away...I'll probably hook up with him this weekend and see if he has some door tops or if he knows of anybody who has some
You might give a second thought to that "C" head. They are only a slight improvement over the "A" head and require the 3 bolt water pump. If you run one, be sure to use the Model B gasket otherwise there are a couple of water holes that will leak. Charlie Stephens Charlie Stephens
Gotta love a sport coupe! Nice find, good luck with it. Got to agree about the C head though, best off looking for something a little more peppy. It's been a while since a sport coupe thread, let's see what else is out there. Here's mine.
Love all those sport coupes.....keep this thread going! If mine dosent sell its getting a "full race banger" and T-5 this winter....
Love the whites on that sporty, Iv actualy rethunk it all today. Im leaving to the Persian Gulf in 6 months so that leaves me with a time table. I have decided Im going to do a frame off "restoration" 1949-53 fenderless build. This is going to be one !nice! car when im done with it. It should arrive tommarow so I can get some better pictures and list started. will update with photos. Would also like to see more of these sport coupes! The thing is sport coupes are my favorite type of model-A as well as the 28-29 years, So I couldnt have asked for more.
Pretty nice! Glad you found it. There's a lot of this stuff sitting all over the country, just gotta be in the right place at the right time.
You HAD to bring that up!... I start therapy Monday. Good luck on the deployment, a couple of my coworkers are leaving next week for the sandbox.
i got me a sport coupe and the guy ct off the door tops and windshield frame, wish he hadnt cause i cant find any replacements, guess ill just make my own, yours is in some nice shape tho congradulations
Found one in a junk yard once, but passed on it. Someone had taken a cutting torch to the rear, and cut out the whole deck lid and trunk area. It was left with the doors and the lower parts of the rear quarters. After I bought my sedan, I went back to the yard, and someone found it, and snagged it up.
[QUOTE Dilemma[/COLOR], I love the sport coupes and need to find a pair of door tops for this since they are long missing. Do you figure I have decent odds of finding a pair that have been cut off for that Coupester look?QUOTE] Looks like you may need to find the upper portions of (or complete) B pillars for the coupe too. They may be even harder to find (if you don't have some) because restorers who saved deck lids and doors off of derelict sport coupe bodies during the last 50 years or so, often didn't save anything else of the body. I have a sport coupe body, that I pulled off of a rock pile, which looks nearly identical to yours, with the door tops and B pillars cut down. That must have been a popular look in the day. Count me in the HAMB sport coupe club.
I might have the parts you need, my sport coupe had an awful hack job on the roof - so I'm going coupster - Still have some of the original framing from the roof(what hadn't been hacked up anyway) let me know....
keep this up and we'll have all the '28-9 5W Coupe owners hacking their roofs off so they can join us... painful... but I for one look forward to their "offerings"
I have every thing to put the top back on a sports coupe a and b pillers and door tops windshild frame and visor for a 30 -31 pm if needed. Im a bad boy i cut mine up ROCKY IN NJ
