Got another 57 Chevy question for ya. Has anybody seen or put bubble skirts on a 4 door? We would like to give it a shot but before we go and buy skirts and cut them up to fit the 4 door I was just wondering if it had been done before. What about skirts from a Shoebox Ford or a Merc? Cruiser skirts? We have the stock skirts but would like something different. Any tips, hints, pics or suggestions would be much apprecitated. Please don't respond telling me to do a 2 door conversion, thats not what we are looking to do. Thanks
The beauty of the bubbles on a 57 is the front spear. The 4 door means you would have to end the skirts right in front of the rear wheel well. I would think about maybe continuing the spear to the front door and splitting it at the rear door seam. Kinda like the fadeaway fender on an old Buick.
I was thinking more along the lines of cutting the skirt in half, mounting the front half on the rear door permanently and having the rear half being removable. It would eliminate the 4 door-ness of it I think. Were those skirts for a 57 or were they for something else?
Those were original Jimmy Jones skirts, handformed and fitted to that car, if I remember correctly. That black 57 is a one owner car built and still owned by the original guy. IMHO one of the nicest ever built
That Chevy is a local car here in Detroit. A-Bros did some custom work on it. The guy that owns it started working on it when he bought it brand new and still owns it today. Yes, those are original Jimmy Jones "Inkster" skirts.
