I'm helping a friend who wants to mate his mid sixties 300 c.i. buick v-8 to a turbo-hydramatic 200 r4. I know the bellhousing pattern is the same. but..... I need to know what flexplate/torque convertor to use. I also need to know if the TH 200 r4 will live behind the little v-8 (stone stock 2-barrel version).. The combo is replacing a 455/TH 400 currently in his 42 chevy pick-up...Thanks
Really good question. You may want to get onto the following and ask some of the Buick guys: http://www.v8buick.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11&pp=25&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=365
Should just use a normal flexplate that was used on the 300 with the ST300 trans, which uses the same converter as the BOP TH350. And the 200 converter is the same bolt pattern as the TH350 converter. GM made it easy...
People have built 200R4s to live behind 455s, but most came with a 305 or 307 V8... should be fine with a 2bbl 300 as long as it's set up to lock up the converter when it's supposed to.
200r4 from a turbo buick can take alot of power mine has 670hp going threw it. the tail tag on the trans has the letter code on them BR F is the strong one. use the 300 flex plate and starter with the 200r4 convertor non lock up. use should be good to go.
