Just got two done tonight. Model T with blown 427, and also "Bullet Bill" from Mario Kart. #17 dirt late model was last year. We are going to do a test-n-tune tomorrow night, so we'll benchmark versus last year's car (which cleaned house).

As a part of a my church's activities, we organize a "no rules" pinewood derby every year. It's usually in the middle of winter, so there's not much else going on. My nephew and I make a couple of cars each year. It's alot funner than the over regulated, win or you suck way that most races turn out. We are usually pretty slow, but we win "best design" every year. The old one was my dad's. He is in his 60's so it is from the late 50's. My sister wanted to beat all the guys with her car. It's the rail looking one. It did beat everyone, the back end was hollowed out and filled with lead. We do have weight regulations, but there are no rules against polishing axles, turning the wheels down, etc.

  6. Our race is in January. I'm helping the grandkids with theirs, and I'm doing a replica of the Pierson Bros coupe. You can trophy in either Speed or Appearance, but not both, and only one car per person. I'm making a "bullet" car for my son-in-law, just to see if I can win both.

When I was a young Boy Scout, I loved the Pinewood derby. (For obvious reasons.) I was the one that had the car that might not have won, but it had killer kustom paint. Foreshadowing I guess?

Next time I'm at my mom's house, I'll snap a few pics of em and dig this thread back up.
