Anyone know what the current scrap price per ton is? I have a guy I have bought old cars from in the past that has a 57 Pontiac and 46 Ford sedan. He gets them to sell for scrap and I want to offer him a bit more than scrap price. Thanks
its really low right now,,,a friend of mine just scrapped a 56 lincoln frame,,they agve him $11....hardly worth the time,,,,,
well, in central Indiana, scrap has droped off to nothing. talked to a guy that works for a local salvage yard yesterday. he told me that the yard was'nt even paying for scrap, the price they would recieve was about 20$ a ton. lowest it has been for years. good news for our hobby/addiction.
In Peoria, Il this last I took a parted out '65 Starfire (2,600 lbs) and 3 large radiators to teh scrap yard and brought home $69.00
I,d give a c-note a piece as long as the trim and glass are okay....buyem and strippem then find out what crush is going for.The Pontiac rear end will get you a c-note from the gasser crowd.
Last time I checked around here was 3 weeks ago and was quoted 35 a ton. A friend last weekend was told they are not paying anything but he could drop it off for free(different yard).
In August wholesale scrap was going for $365 per ton & this month it's down to $65 per ton! It will probably go lower in December.
Wow that's good news for us!!!!! They both still have the V8's in them. Pontiac is a 2 door HT but no rear end. 46 is a 4 door sedan. I am going to go look sometime next week.
No 57 rear diff? No matter....a 2 door hardtop rear window surround trim will get you a hundred on Ebay if its nice and you polish it.The glass will fit a 55-57 Chevy 2 door hardtop as well! 57 Pontiac trim is not reproduced and the rare stuff is gold in good shape.
Heck, if the '57's not rotty someone might want it as a car, if it was close to me I'd go for it and use my 4dr as a donor.
Holy shit, it was $250 a ton a couple months ago.. I made over $2500 in 2 days hauling outta my yard... had no idea it had dropped so low since then.
Just hauled 1200 Lbs of prepaired and got 15.00 not worth the gas. the bottom fell out of the scrap market.
china is no longer buying it up. the olympics are over. the goverment isn't subsidizing building anymore and their economy can't sustain the growth they were experiencing preparing for the olympics. price of oil is dropping too. everything is back to normal.
Last time I was in line at the scrapper there was a real nice '64 New Yorker on the trailer ahead of me.. I thought about asking the guy if he'd sell it to me but then realized that at "scrap price" that car was worth over $500... man, how times have (apparently) changed...
I hope some of it comes back by next spring, should have plenty saved up by than. Not worth the trip for now.
A buddy of mine has a crusher and a semi for hauling crushed scrap to the steel mill. For a couple of months he hasn't done any hauling because he can't recoup the cost of gas to haul a load of scrap to the mill. He bought a manufactured house based on the high (until recently) metal prices, but now he can't make the mortgage payments. Strange how the global econonmy works --- boom or bust.
$15 for a car here, was $65 3 weeks ago, $200+ 45 Days ago! I screwed up. got a pickup that needs to go bye bye. I also collect soda/beer cans. half crushed in a 55 gal drum brought me $20 a few months ago. Now it is closer to $5
I would like to say I see this value for steel/alum in the material cost. I used to take 700lbs of aluminum chips a week to the recycler @ $.45 a pound. now $.17 . This hasnt translated in to what I buy it at. Why? Steel is the same approx. per pound of solids too.
