I've got a 283 Chevy starter. I went to connect the front bracket and noticed that the starter through bolt is sheared off where the bracket connects. Anybody know where I can source that bolt? Thank you.:)

Its the bolt that runs through the starter and hangs out the back for the bracket to mount to. You can see it in the smaller picture.

In an old starter core collection....do you have any buddies who have a lot of junk laying around? if so ask them.

Bolt is 1/4X20 ,get a piece of all thread . Cut to lenght and use 2 nuts ,one to work as the bolt head the other to hold the bracket. After doing this the correct part will sudenly become available !! Try a starter/gen shop is any in your area.

Ya, the only reason I havnt done that yet is because the correct bolt will show up just as soon as I do that. Funny how that always happens...

with all the cool junkyards in cali why not do a search and seisure mission you might find somethig else you want or extras. also do you have a pick-n-pull near you some of the 305 starters have the same bolt in them

Another solution would be to pretend it's like 98% of the other Chevy V8s out there, and remove the front bracket.
