I have a std transmission 53 210 with an old 235 pounder in it. I have decided to pull the engine and replace it with a later 235 full oiler. My question is, what year should I look for? I want one that will bolt right in with no modifications necessary. My mounts are on the side.

    Thank You

53 and later powerglide cars, and 54 and later all. look for side mount engines though. i think some mid-50s were front mount. not sure about that though

You need a 53 or 54 motor to keep the side mounts, 58-62 used a different mount, but I think there is a place making conversion mounts for them. I want to say that it is Patrick's? I would part with my 54 235, currently in my 53, once the v8 swap is closer. Can you wait until Christmas?

Yeah I can wait until then, I have just started pulling the old one. Is there anything wrong with yours that I should be aware of?

As said, '53 PG or any '54 would be the only "drop in".

Next best would be the 58-62 version, but the mounts on the side of the motor are different, so you will need to modify/make the mounts on the engine, or buy a set from Langdons Stovebolt Engnie Co.
You would also need to do something about the water pump. Either shorten the pump and use a pulley from a long pump SBC, (or buy the kit from Patrick's), or get an adapter plate off Ebay that will allow you to use the '53 type pump. Or you could try moving the radiator forward and trim the inside hood support.

Drove it to Rust Revival, Lead Sled Spectacular, Greaserama and Hamb Drags this summer, with only a water pump gasket and a fuel pump gasket failure. Its pretty strong. No smoke. I run a t5, which I highly recommend. I might even part with that too. You can use the bellhousing for a 4 speed too, if you wish.
