    Yeah whatever happened to that?

Or that plymouth dodge roadster pick up thing you were building?

This body can be saved with a lot of work, you'll just have to get your heart into it and a six pack of beer and go for it. If you want to see were you really at have it chemically dipped and then make your decision.

    2 things

    1. Why not get the Ugly truck to driver status and sell. Nothing is selling right now, and projects ar emuch harder to sell than running driving rods.

    2. Why not a fiberglass body from Speedway? And then fiberglass the designs or changes you want for the show rod look.

  7. You make a good point. I will finish the Ugly Truck first. As for s Speedway body, I hate working with fiberglass. I will tackle the T as my skills improve. I already have most of the components for a rolling chassis, minus a rear end. I'm in the very early planning stages right now.

I still have the Plymouth body; I have just always wanted a T roadster more than anything, and this one fell into my lap.

    Richard...
It really does depend on you.. your skills (and willingness to improve them if needed) and dollars in your pocket.
I'm starting with a LOT less than that but more than bert started with (great looking work bert).
I built an English-wheel and a planishing hammer to help myself along and have been beating tin for a long time.
The only panels I'll buy will be new sheets of metal. I'm using what I have as patterns.
    Your results may vary.
I look at what Mr. Sibley does and compare it to my lowly work. There's a world of difference but I am happy to have something to play with.
And yes, like Chaddilac says... dip that critter in cider or molasses! (done it)
Or get into electrolysis. (done it lots)
Lately I'm getting really fond of using Evaporust (it's like Safest Rust Remover, which I can't get locally). Degrease, flap-wheel the excess rust where you can and set up a bath with the stuff.
Let us know how it goes.

  9. Looks like you have a good start- better than many I've seen!

Oh, if you're not going to use the steering bracket on the dash, I'm in need of one:D...

  10. I'd sell it to someone who didn't know better & buy a 'glass body.

    I'm a sell-out like that though.

  16. It would only be too far gone if you were trying to sell it to someone else.

Wait, it was free? You've got nothing to worry about unless you just dont have the time to mess with it.

When you get done with that baby, you will likely be real good with sheet metal. That might be worth it right there. You'll definitely learn a few things not to do and some times those are the absolute best things to learn. I say go for it, it was free and that' a pretty damn good starting point. Blurr your eyes a bit, I don't see any rust out. Looks like a T roadster to me as is, just needs a 'little' fixing up.

It looks pretty close to the same condition as the one sitting out back at my place.

It also looks like something that you can develope the skills on without a huge worry on what the results will be. How else are you going to develope metal working skills if you don't get out and work on metal? If you screw it up you turn around and fix the screw up and call it a lesson in metal working.

I have to say, get rid of the rust and see what you have or don't have and go from there. Even with 650.00 in patch panels and sheet metal you are only out 650 and you don't have to buy all of it at once. The buy it as you need it plan works well for most of us when buying pieces like that.
I like the ideas you have for it, that should make a nice little hotrod when it is done.

T-roadsters aren't getting any cheaper. Looks like a good start to me. Hell I would take free roadster bodies all day long.

  22. Damn Richard, i paid $503 just for 2 rockers sets, inner and outter....and am fabricating the attachment points on the car myself...then there's the repair of the rear tail section, filling in my missing roof.....probably $250 for a dash to put back in it, used, from europe, i don't have any rims, no tires, still need a narrowed rearend,,motor or tranny............point??????????? hell i would do it again , as i stated in my earlier post, if the "lOVES THERE", the money , pain mental headaches....they just make it that much better when it rolls out for the first cruise...........oh yeah , did i forget to add, i'm one of the poor Hambers????????

and i bought my body..good deal too, but it was still money changing..build that sucker!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't pay a lot for a body in that condition.... but anything can be fixed, its just metal!

  24. I think I will name this the "Free T"; my good friend Kyle got two T bodies for free and gave me one. I'd never consider selling it, that would be pretty chicken shit. If I can't make a go of it, I'll give it to a friend. I think I'll just fix it a little at a time, the patch panels are cheap, and continue the Ugly Truck.

That thing looks GREAT! My green T wasnt much nicer and I had to give a lot more money for it. 27 roadsters are not exactly cheap to get.

  28. Ummm- it depends on you, not the car. If you enjoy metal work, and get a kick out of seeing it refurbished, then I say do it.
Steel is real. I can buy that whole body brand new for 900 from Unlimited in California. But it's glass. Steel roadsters command more money when finished. And there bitchin. T bodies are getting scarce. I once got a tall T body for 50 bucks and sold it for 500. I wished I kept it now. So... That's about all I can tell you on this subject.
Looking at the the whole situtation, I would build it. Anyone can build a glass roadster these days.
If you do this, I for one, would be proud of you. Too many young people want everything done automatically. I dont know your age, but I'm 53, and I have a lot of respect for sweat equity. I wish more guys would take on stuff like this. We need guys with talent. If anything, do this to improve your skills. The older I get, the more "impossible" jobs I wished I woulda tackled when I was younger... Mikey

  29. I say, how bad do you want to build it. Check out the garbage I started with for my 28 :)

    of course it's worth saving,
I'll be looking for some of the same patch panels myself
I plan on buying the more complex ones, like bun panels, and fabbing the rest.

hell even what looks like a nice body might need an inch or two of the bottom replaced,
what's the difference if you are replacing 2" or 6"? not much.

    go for it,
and please document it here on the HAMB.

    here's mine,
I'm not going to get too involved with body work until the chassis is at least roughed together
