Lowlife posted this pic of a 32 p/u last year. Haring photoshopped a couple of versions. I emailed him with some requests. He was feeling charitable and did a rpu version for me, with a few other subtle mods.

I rolled my pile of junk out on Saturday and snapped a pic. The resemblance is amazing. Even the gas tank hanging down under the bed, which is something Haring improvised on. I have yet to cut the hole in the side of the bed for the filler neck. It will be intersting to look at when I get the wheels painted black and the windshield on.

See, some of those HAMB photoshops actually do get used. [IMG] [IMG]

Lookin good, Neal. Makes me wish I hadn't traded off my 32 pickup cab to a buddy of Smokey's last year. The top was pretty ragged on it and I never even considered cutting it off....
I can see it with a s****y, V-shaped windshield frame. Duvall style. I gotta say, I'd have to shorten up the back of the box, tho. It looks out of porportion to me.

  3. You da' man!!

    That looks *****en!

Must be the FIRST photoshop job to actually get done here on the HAMB...

Can't wait to see it in person.

I knew some people would not like it, but I do. [IMG]

I don't care for a full length 32 bed, but this is a 33-34 bed shortened 5 inches in front of the wheelwell. Effectively I ended up with a 32 bed shortened 5". I am going for a late 40's style build, kinda like unbolted the fenders and this is what it looks like, so I am happy with the look.

I put a 41-48 Ford car gas tank and a receiver hitch built into the frame, so with all that in there I can't really go any shorter.

The receiver hitch will be hidden by the license plate, which will be removable.

Very cool and as much as I respect your decision to built it "your way" I gotta go with Rocky on this one. I think the box should be centered with the rear tire. But hey, that's just our opinions.
    Either way, damn nice truck!

Rocky and Donzie - You're both crazy. I think that bed looks so much better longer. Congradulations Neal, that truck looks rad.

Thanks Donzie, that confirms that I am headed in the right direction. [IMG]

With the bed shortened that much it looks like a 49-51 Ford with no side trim...short and fat [IMG]

Wow, I forgot all about this. I'm so surprised -- and happy -- to see it come back in real steel form.

Your truck looks so cool. By contrast, I've made 0% progress on my own project (will look pretty similar to the original photo).

I love the long bed and plan to run a one on mine. I like the utilitarian at***ude of the long bed.

I would very much like to see some detail shots, particularly of the suspension to know where and how you mounted the bones.

Man, I really like the look of that thing -- especially the bed. It seems like every RPU on the road has a shortened bed on it (too short). And with the long bed on yours it is going to stand out. The ch***is work, tank and hitch crossmember look great. I really like the angle-cut box tubing body mounts. Looks like a rock solid hauler. What are you going to use for motorvation?

  16. I am leaving mine long on my r/pu too every one that see's it says your gonna shorten the bed huh that exactly why I am not plus I like long beds always have looks great Neal

Front is a stock 32 wishbone with a homemade K-member made mostly from a 37 truck crossmember. Rear is a combination of 28/36/40 bones tied into a fabricated crossmember using the socket out of another truck crossmember.

    The rear radius rod pieces...

The pieces welded together with a fabricated Z for frame clearance.

I dont have any good pics of the crossmembers. Next time the cab is off I will try to remember to take some.

Nealin, don't even think of chopping the bed, I'm using the full length A bed on my 29 rpu and I love it. Not many people chopped their beds in the 40's, yours is right on. Why not put the fuel filler next to the hitch hidden and not cut a hole inbed side. Just a thought. Love your ride.--TV [IMG]

    Damn
That is one *****in pick up. I´d love to take that "ugly" bed from your ride. It would fit just right to my project pictured here in "test ride" stage without any unnecessary windows, floors etc. Once more: your RPU sits just RIGHT!

Well, not this year for sure. I am shooting for Paso/LARS next year.

The bad thing about looking at pics on the HAMB is that they can be misleading [IMG] The cab needs alllllot of work. The doors are just c-clamped on. I have yet to build new thinner door posts in the cab, reinforce the back of the cab, install hinges and latches, and build new inner door structures.

That gets me to the point where I can start forming new door tops to blend into the dash rail and W/S stanchions. Then I can mount the dash and windshield. Once that is done I can position my steering column and weld the flange on my steering gear. At that point I can tear it all apart and finish welding up the ch***is.

And I still haven't touched any of the mechanicals...like brakes, rearend, engine, etc.

One of my dad's friends (who is a buyer, not a builder) made a comment when looking at my 32, "Your job and family must really take alot of your time..."

I guess it shouldn't take this long to bolt a kit together [IMG] [IMG]

Kit [IMG] What? That car is awesome. Can't wait to see it on the road. I'll look forward to seeing it at Paso next year and maybe this time we can make by your place as well. Keep up the good work.
    Cheers,
    Tim
