Yep.. my friends are the same way. They all left Iowa to persue their careers in whatever big city they could find.. They're currently obsessing about keeping up with the Jonses and finding themselves a nice 3000+ sq foot modernday Levittown house in the burbs.. They think I'm goofy and that I drive crappy cars (because I like to pay for them outright)..

As per the ditch cars, my grandfather keeps threatening to push them into the ditch and covering them with dirt, since the scrapyards said he'd have to pay them to take them away.

He once asked me about finding someone to buy them but said "if they want one, they're taking them all!"

When I was a kid I was given specific orders to NOT bang the cars up or ruin the glass, because that let the racoons in.. heh.. One of the front windows of the pink '55 Ford became a glass plate for the top of my boyhood desk, so I could store postcards or whatever under it.

I told him if he'd parked his tractors outdoors and stuck all those vehicles in his machineshed he might be traveling to Europe on vacations now [IMG]

Everyone seems to be saying stuff like, "don't take it personal" "you're thinking too much about it" and "don't worry so much about what other people think", but that doesn't really seem how most guys think.
When it is put in front of your face the obvious decision is to brush it off and say that you aren't like that, but I think that small town iowa boy hit the nail on the head.
Just .02 from a small town minnesota boy.
