You are an old fart when this little trinket wouldn't work on your once state of the art wooden console radio, record player, TV set because it only played 78. When you remember thinking the Beetles were ruining your rock and roll music. (I didn't convert until Abby Road.) If you remember where "my dog Tide" lives. If you remember the plastic Ford cars that came inside the cereal boxes. If you watched 77 Sunset Strip just to see Kookie's ride. If you know why a poker hand of 10's and 4's was once called a Broderick Crawford. If you got your feet Xrayed in a shoe store when you were a kid.

    Beenie and Cecil
    Kookla fran and ollie
    Howdie Doodie

When you can remember all the *****en details of the cars you've seen on the HAMB but can't remember the name of the guy that built it and posted it.:D

What was the TV show that asked you to put a plastic film over the TV screen so that you could use a crayon to draw in the bridges so that the cartoon characters could cross over the river?

Thanks for the memories!! I could relate to most of them, even gathering around the radio to hear "The Shadow Knows", and listening to the Indy 500 on the radio. Remember the back seat speaker with the re-verb thingy that was real high tech. Even a rear seat speaker was a big deal. I feel a little sad sometimes as I see the momentum build in this hobby wishing I had more years to enjoy it, but I am sure as hell going to do my best to enjoy the ones I can. I remember my Dad installing turn signals on cars that didn't have them from the factory, ordering them from Warshosky (sp?) a division of J.C. Whitney that was wholesale only for dealers. Detailing his used cars and painting the rubber floor mats with tire black!! Older yes but smarter? Doubt it!!~Sololobo~

  18. I was kind of hoping this was going to be a reminiscence of the early days of the HAMB, but it's kinda like one of those chain emails that do the rounds every now and then about 'Do you remember when?'

If you were really an old fart on the HAMB, you would know who Germ and Mud were and remember that you could write your whole post in the subject heading.

    I'm so old... ;)

When you can remember portions of seven different decades but not much of the 60s.

  25. When buying a new General Kinetics Camshaft from Detroit High Performance Warehouse for $24.95 seemed like tough task and the lifters cost a whopping $19.95 and it just seemed immpossible to save up the dough to pay for it. And you could pick up a used Offenhauser with 2--4-s, air cleaners, and linkage kit for $150.00. And the the Full Service Gas Station you worked at sold DELUXE for 49.9 cents a gallon. Then add all this together and figure that your boss really trusted you at the age of 15 so he gave you a CHARGE ACCOUNT. Now here comes the best. That engine with all the goodies that you built guzzeled the 49.9 cent a gall fuel at a rate of 5 MPG and you were having a **** fit trying to figure out were you were going to get $46.00 to pay your monthly gas bill for that fire breather so your boss wouldn't kick your *** >>>>.

    Remember when:
Domino Cigarettes were 15 cents a pack, Lucky Strike were 16 cents.
A bottle of Coca Cola was 5 cents, and you got 3 cents back for the empty.
A haircut was 15 cents, a flattop was a quarter.
A movie and a box of popcorn was 25 cents.
Howdy Doody was on Television. Long time until color came around!
Walt Disney was my HERO, and still is! Long Live Walt Disney!
Video Games weren't even a thought!
We got all our information (gossip) on the crank ring telephone via party line, or from one of the women on the switchboard!
Lobster Fisherman still used Model A engines in their Boats!
AND WHEN I WAS FIRST MARRIED AND MOVED INTO A REBUILT HOUSE, #2 FUEL OIL FOR FILLING A 275 GALLON TANK WAS $42.00.
Not that I would want to relive (some) of those times, but the fuel oil prices would certainly be welcome now!
    Enjoy!
