A friend of mine, who is also a HAMB member, just moved down to Tennessee (Kingsport area) and was tring to find out what goes on there with shows, clubs, hot rod shops, swapmeets etc. Thought I would throw a post up here for him, I said if anything good goes on, I might go visit, ha ha. Thanks.
We have our share of redneck **** rods but there are also a lot of nice cars in the south. Pigeon Forge draws thousands over the course of the year. The NSRA does the Nats South in Knoxville. Large shows in Louisville, Atlanta, Nashville, & Charlotte are each only about 4 hours away. There are a handful of weekly cruises in East TN & the Summer Nights Cruise in Somerset, KY is about 2 hours north. I love being in Knoxville. Outside of Los Angeles, I don't think there are many places better for a car guy to settle. .... & the scenery is spectacular.
In addition to the big shows mentioned, the Kingsport area has tons of local shows. There are still quite a few pastel billet mobiles running around and lots of late model muscle cars but there's plenty of traditional stuff too. Here are more than enough photos from the local scene for you to check out: http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/showin/moccasin-gap-napa-c-1/ http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/showin/broad-street-cruise/ http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/showin/2008-aaca-fall-meet/ http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/showin/2008-fun-fest-car-show/ http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/showin/flbc-car-and-bike-show/ http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/showin/carter-county-car-c/ http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/showin/2008-wilderness-tra/
It's just like the movie "DELIVERANCE".... only with a lot more **** ****!!! Just kidding. I was born there and just moved back from there a few years ago. Some of the best people you'll ever meet. A lot of car guys out there.
I live in Detroit and work in the Chatnooga(sic?)area,I have to say,the people I've meet have been great.I now have good friends 650 miles from home.I have not spent much time in knoxville, but there are a ton of hot rod guys there. Dave
If he's in Kingsport I'll be happy to show him around. Its real nice here. Real laid back. Descent car scene. Whats he drive?
Thanks for all the response. I'll p*** on the info. How about rod shops down there, he used to work with me building cars and would like to continue for someone or maybe go on his own. Is there a market for hot rod shops/builders?
There is one here in Kingsport, "Eddie's Rod Shop", I think it's called. I have no idea how he's doing or what he has going because I've never been there. I can't afford to pay him or anybody else to work on my cars. There's also "City Boys Customs" down the street from me although they do almost nothing but late model, muscle car stuff.
Tingler, is that the newest poorboys ride??? i dunno if theres any poorboys around that area or not are they? i mean thats east Tn, thats greazy country!!!!!!! hahahahaha
You might be a redneck if you carpool with these guys! Bwahaha, if those were all I had for shoes, I think I'd just go barefoot! WTF?
Might check out the Hamblen County Car Club in Morristown (between Kingsport and Knoxville). I came from that area and the car club is pretty active in the summer at least a 100 cars every Sat. night thru the summer. Hope to get back some day. Don
Elizabethton has a cruise in on saturdays. About 300 cars. On Memorial day weekend in Rogersville theres memory lane. A guy out thre built a 50s style town with a ford dealership, an old diner, texaco station, and all kinds of cool stuff. They have a show there that saturday. They even have a drive ib and show a movie that night. Las year was thunder Raod. Its my favorite show. Both of these are about 30- 45 min from kingsport
