Looks pretty cool. I see it already has "bucket" seats.
    Sorry, I couldn't resist. [IMG]

I find it really intersting how similar all the american cars were in 30-31,I guess the depression made all the manufacturers very conservative in their designs. The mouldings, rear panel, firewall shape and even window openings are******* close to an improved A.
I wonder if people back then said 'bloody new cars are all startin to look the same to me!' the way I do now?
Good luck with the project ,looks pretty solid!

So right, they did look like a bunch of "Badge Engineering cars then too!
And in '33 almost all of them got the extended front fender behind the wheel, and slpoing grills...looks like a lot of designers were sleeping in each ther's beds...
Major difference here is if that was a Ford 4 door sedan the body framing would be all wood as were GM cars up thru '36 whereas the Dodge had an all steel body framing. (not counting trim tack strips)

Lowsquire, funny you should say that. I ran nto a guy that had a 30 Desoto and he used a back seat for a 32 model A from Tea's Design's in his. He said it fit really nice.

DrJ, so the wood that is around the back window is just for trim and not body bracing? This is the first time for a car this old for me so I'm not sure what is and what isn't.

I'm planning on running a flat 6 out of a mid 40's Dodge in it with an Offy intake, split exhaust manifold, and maybe a Edgy head. Still not sure what trans I want to run,I'm leaning towards running a T-5 behind it. Somebody that was here before did it. I'd like to go fenderless with it but PA law say's it has to have fenders, dammit. So I'm trying to figure out how to get around that. Anybody? Thanks for the replies, later plmczy

That's a big garage!Watch you don't drop any tools! Are you going to get it out before the snow?

  7. Plmcrzy.... I built a 31 plymouth for my mother. If you need any info or parts let me know.
As far as the fender thing. I've been running without fenders for allmost 2 years now. I don't have an inspection sticker either. You can run a small "cycle" fender that is removable after inspection.

Lulabelle, I hope to get it outa there before the snow flies. We got the front end up out of the ground, less the wheel and tire on the driver side that is still in the tree [IMG]. I'll give you a call soon.

Clark, thanks for the offer. I'll take you up on that sometime. I thought about cycle fenders, maybe I'll do that. Whats the 31 plymouth look like? later plmczy

a guy at some of the local cruises has a yellow, fenderless 33 plymouth 5 window coupe, i think it looks alot like a ford, it has a 350 with a dual tunnel ram and 30x18.5 tires on the back, it looks pretty sweet, i like them without the fenders a lot better too, but to get around the law you could use motorcycle fenders like in American Graffiti, i think they look pretty good too

  10. Plmcrzy.....The Plymouth is just about the same. The plymouth only had one cowl vent but the rest looks identical. The grill on the Plymouth looks pretty cool. Not sure what the Dodge grill looks like. We have some extra fenders and stuff. There's a guy that makes a new strip that goes below the doors. You will more than likely need it.

Someone told me that the back windows are diffrent
plymouth is more oval shaped. There was been talk about Pa might lifting the fender rule for anything pre 36. I also might know where you can get a 52 flathead 6 and trans if you don't have one.

Clark, I'll need the lower piece for sure. The post between both doors flaps in the wind, lol. The window is oval on a plymouth, there is a fella up the road from me that has a 31 coupe and his has a oval window. Let me know how I get info on those pieces. I'd really apreciate it. If you would want to part with your stuff pm me sometime on what you have and prices.

46mopar, I'll keep that flat 6 in mind. The one I want to use is a stones throw from where this car sits. I'm brain stormin to see how I'm gonna pull that out in the woods. Plus it sat out in the weather with no hood on for who knows how long. I'm not even sure if it's worth pullin. I'm not to far from you. I'll get ahold of you some how. later plmczy
