Shine is an amazing craftsman... I'd love to have his skills - who's ripping him? I wish he would let me help his marketing though...

I like his truck- sans the divco wheels and crosses. Seems like an okay guy to me- I aint gonna bitch. He's not in the perpetual bad mood that Boyd is in, so he's alright.

Has anyone else noticed the conspicuous bulge of the eyes that Chip Foose has? I don't wanna make fun of him, but it looks like his finger is in the socket!

    I totally agree with Ryan.
I met Jimmy a couple times in the last years. That guy does amazing work and he's always been cool to me and ready to help me out. No attitude. Only the whole merchandise thing might be a bit overdone (can't really find the right word here)...

Never met Jimmy Shine, but that truck of his is amazing. I've only heard good things about him as well.

Perhaps the "poser" image comes from the way he always seems to be photographed. Cole, too. Those photographers like to shoot them for maximum jerk-off for all the guys in prison. Mmmm, those flat-brimmed hats, Dickies work shirts, and furrowed brows sure are sexy.

Chip Foose, however ... ain't nothing sexy about that guy. [IMG]

Just a thought, don't know him but like and wish i was driving his little truck, i admire his craftmanship, have not seen the ripping other than the trying to market a new truck as an old one but that brings me to my point, over selling of people by way of items with their name has happened time after time after time to the extent of being the negative not the person. look at Von Dutch, occ, wc choppers on and on, i admit to wearing things with roth on them but all this marketing of people i think is a turn off so maybe its not shine himself but the in your face shine shirts that is the culprit for turnoffs, people may be tired of the secondary marketing versus just the original craft respect? when you see the above mentioned co. decals on wrecks with bc plates it just don't make sense.????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Although I can agree with "over-marketing" it's good to advertise, promote business. But the VonDutch thing pissed me off som uch in high school that every time I saw somebody wearing one of those articles of clothing I would lecture them on Dutch. It didn't take long for those who wore that stuff to stop. I got a lot of compliments on my So-Cal t-shirts, though.
    It helps w/ the ladies, a heh-heh.

Jimmy is a Hell of a nice guy. I hung out with him a few times out at the lakes. When I broke the driveshaft on my model A he let me take his truck and trailer loaded with all his race gear to haul my truck home. After offering to run home and get parts and help me fix it at the lakes. I would say that is a hell of a nice guy to let someone you really don't know take your new truck 6 hours round trip in the middle of the night.. Jimmy is a good guy besides being a great fabricator.

  14. Thanx for reminding me. I owe Jimmy a beer. Look. People get all worked up over people they don't know. Jimmy's a good guy. Always treats me fine. You need me to rough him up or anything? Wayno

I've met The Shine a few times, and he's always come across as a nice guy each time I've talked to him...He's definitely a character, though.

I was just at So-cal Speedshop the other day and got to check out the bike he's building....the craftsmanship on the thing is first-rate. Lots of interesting details and killer execution to boot. I think his abilities combined with the fact that he's such a character lead to his marketability, so to speak. And it seems So-cal has tried to cash in on Shine a bit... but that doesn't seem to keep him from doing what he wants to do, or from building nice stuff.

As far as the negative feedback is concerned, it goes hand in hand with the popularity. Once a guy gets to be well known, there will always be that segment of the population that will hate him for it, no matter if he's actually the real deal or not.

As far as I can tell, The Shine is the real deal. Although he's a good guy and obviously talented, I don't really think he should be put on a pedestal...but his work definitely should command respect.

I also tend to agree with Ryan's comments on Chip Foose. To me, the guy seems to be sort of a Hot Rod renaissance man...he can do a little bit of everything better than most people can do just one.

  16. I still say Chip looks like that retarded kid on TV in the 80s.............Corky. ANd I will call him that next week when he is in town. [IMG]

Couldn't have put it better myself. Start making money and all of a sudden you are a sell out. I've been told he is embarrased about the t-shirts etc.

  18. Wish I could swap lifestyles/jobs with Mr.Shine!!

    But......Chip who???

  19. Nothin but respect for Jimmy Shine...the popular attitude seems to be "he has a tshirt out...fuckin sellout"...same people blastin jesse james. next thing ya know people are gonna say Fay Butler has no talent 'cause he was on t.v...i don't know one person who wouldn't want to advance their career and make some more money while there at it...except for me ya know cause i wanna live in shitty house and struggle to pay bills..hey at least i will be true to the scene and not be a sellout..fuck that..people always put down what they can't be

That bike looks like "The Shine" took a guided tour of Fly Rite Choopers. The Sad thing is that that bike will get 20x's the press Jason's get and he's done that bike and better.

I'm going to disagree a bit here....I totally like and respect the bikes that Jason and crew build, but even though they are done in a similar vein there are differences. Almost like comparing apples to oranges.

The reveal in the tank is hand-hammered...the reveal in the fender was made on a hand-formed die...the oil tank is handmade from aluminum tube stock, the frame is a one-off piece...etc., etc.

The only thing I see that this bike really has in common with other bikes is the 16" rear and 21" front wheel...and that does not make it the same. In fact, it's the details that set the bike apart from other traditional builds.

I'm not saying it's the best, just interesting and well put together.

That's my 2 cents, please resume the Jimmy Shine love fest/and or bashing now. [IMG]

Hey Bass you got any more pics of the bike? I love how some people do things the hard way. If you didn't know you wouldn't think how much work goes into some of these pieces (especially if people think that OCC is the way bikes are built).

Man I dig that thing. Love the rear bar and the way it hugs the tail light. It so kicks that silly PBR bike, in another post, ass.... Great work, tasteful, stylish yet utilitarian...

    Mmmmmm..... Good.

  27. People that rip on Jimmy Shine are jealous.

He's very personable, AND builds top notch shit.

I agree that Shine and Foose are both extremely talented and so id Jesse and Paul Jr.
Jesse's show is a joke as far as the way it is presented. Too bad because he is one talented dude and he puts together some dam fine build teems.
I still like to watch OCC even though I don't like the type of bikes they build and the marketing hype is a farce. They are selling crap, every truck stop now has cheap made OCC hats from China. I guess West Coast Choppers has the same shoddy crap. Sad thing is Jesse's celebrity status doesn't really come from what he builds, it comes from dark side of his personality.

Cus, where'd you lift that "lakeslide" shot from? (I took it, that's why I was wondering)

Oh, yeah...Shine's a fag. Greg Peterson does all Jimmy's fab work after hours!
