I have heard rumblings that this rockabilly, traditional rods, gassers, and whatever else is in the magazines today thing is just a flash in the pan fad. I realized that I don't know or care if that's true. I put my 54 Gasser up for sale because I had a chance to make some money somewhere else and it didn't sell. So I had to sell off some other projects like my stude and hilborn nailhead. Then I ended up being too late for the other opportunity anyway (a stash of 50's ragtops locally). But I am glad I didn't lose my Gasser in my temporary madness. So tonight I bought that altered wheelbase 57 Ford. It looked pretty incomplete but when I talked to the fellow, he had the good 430 Lincoln motor with Algon injection, Joe Hunt Vertex Magneto, and lots of goodies and I soiled myself and bought it all. Now I have two gassers that are barely streetable, oddball cars that probably few people want because they are not tri-five chevys or Willy's gassers. And I thought....FANTASTIC!! I hope these never get popular! Look at the Willys ex-gasser on Ebay right now that is very incomplete with no driveline and pretty beat (but very cool) for over $15k with bids right now. I couldn't get 10k out of fresh Latham supercharged Y block in a glasstop 54 Ford that was totally complete. That mindset is something I don't quite understand but it allowed me to be in an altered 57 Ford with a good injected 12:1 Lincoln 430 motor for MUUUUUUUUUUCH less tonight. So I am all for the masses not liking the odd stuff. I know there have to be some other oddball gassers out there in HAMB-land and since I've only been on here a few months, I'd like to see them. Send me some pictures. And my hope for you all is that whatever you are into ain't worth a damn thing to anybody else until the day you sell it. I just had to share my confusion. I think my taste in cars must suck...and I couldn't be happier about it.

Got any pics of the '57? Sounds like a bad ass car. The Glasser Gasser is way cool, especially that Y-Block. I drooled over the engine shot of that car. If I had the funds, that car would be mine, but I have too many projects now. Maybe it is good that you still own it, now someone else won't rebuild it and ruin its history.

Thanks man. The 54 is the first car I've ever really not hated enough to sell. I still suck at posting pictures on the HAMB but I e-mailed you a couple of the 57. Should have motor pictures soon. The car is supposedly an old Bakersfield gasser but I don't know if it's true.

Hey man, my taste in cars must also suck cuz your cars sound killer!! Post some pics. I'd like to see more gassers cruzin' the streets scarin' the hell outta the rice burners musclecar guys. [IMG]

  5. That '57 was bad ass.

It's only lame if it just sits and never becomes driveable.

Get it running for the HAMB Drags and you'll be my hero... make it fast.

    Sam.

I saw your wheels on ebay, and thought "Now there's something I'll probably never see again in my life..."

www.1954ford.com has some pics of their recent gettogether in Detroit, and there's a pic of a red glasshood in the mix somewhere..

All those cars look so nice (on that site) and mine looks so grungy.. There was even a little 1954 Ford golf cart someone made..

  7. I'm looking for a straight axel car and don't really care if they come or go out of style as I think they are badass.

I was checking out eBay today and saw your altered '57 Ford. I was just going to find the link and post it on here when I read this. Pretty cool car and I hope to see some pictures soon of it put together.

Thanks. It was kind of funny cause you don't see many glasstops around here but at the Rockabilly Rumble this summer there were four out of about 250 cars. That red car you mentioned was there too. They were all radically different and we lined them up for some group shots after the show. I'll figure out how to post them someday. Ironically, there was a cool 57 Ford Gasser parked on the other side of me at that show so I plan to park one next to him at the next one! I have a great picture of him doing a nasty burnout in the parking lot of that show too that I need to post sometime. I'll get that 57 altered photographed as soon as it gets here from California (couple of weeks). I have all the missing parts on a 57 Ford Delivery parts car here so I should be able to get it together pretty quickly...its just about money now....ain't it always?

Money.. My problem is I live way too close to my debt:income ratio now that I have a house. I wouldn't have it any other way, but I'm finding that I can't liven up my car overnight.

Here's a skyliner I saw at a show recently that I didn't really care for, but I was out photographing all the 52-54's I saw that day...

  18. What a bunch of horse shit.

Nostalgia is not a fad. It's fucking nostalgia for fuck's sake! It doesn't go away. It's history! Yeah, the rat rod thing may fade a bit, but traditional rods will always be cool.

Have you ever looked at a TV from the 50's and said, "oh, that's just a fad?" Hell no! It's history. We have higher tech. versions now but that old TV is still cool as hell.

    Ron-
Don't feel bad at all. I am accused of having strange taste in cars myself. I tend to like wagons, deliveries, gassers and 4 dr. sedans.
I guess I just got tired of seeing 20 Bel Airs and at least a dozen Mercs at shows. And for the record, I fell in love with the Glasser Gasser when I went to Tom's shop. If only I had a money-tree.

I just got home as was happy to see two new badass Studes on this post! I agree that these are history and even if you are just building one today, they are a big nod to the evolution of hot rodding and racing. I was kinda hopin that it was a fad though so that it would get over soon and parts would get cheaper again but I don't see it happening. The 57 still needs a lot of work but that Algon injected 430 with an Isky cam should make that short wheelbase stand up nicely. I don't think I saw what those studes were running for power??? I know there are more whacky gassers out here too. Post em up fellas...

Unclescooby, I just finished kicking you in the nuts in another post (before i knew you owned the car) for welding the glasser hood to the fenders then i found this post & I hafta know ... was the front end always 1-piece? Are ya crazy or just spitting in the face of restorers? Those hoods are rare enough that I'd be chickenshit to mess with it, I'd ebay it & make a fake one. Big props if you did it just for shits n giggles. WWS

    whitwallslick-
I buy and sell a lot of cars to just to make cash. I had this car with hood up for sale and it of course didn't sell but I got a bunch of offers to buy just the hood. I told everyone to buy the whole car, keep the hood, and sell the body but no one would do it (which was strange because I got offers for over $2k for the hood and I only wanted $4k for everything and the car ran). That irritated me so I thought...fuck em...let's cut it up. It hurt just a bit at first but I'm glad I did it. It really makes the purists wanna puke and I think it makes the car that much cooler. That Latham looks pretty pressed up against that plexiglass and it kinda symbolizes my ass pressed up against against the drivers window as I pass by the purists at shows now. You were right to bust my balls for it but there really isn't much I wouldn't cut up anymore. Just ask the guy in the trunk of my car.

It had a 292 3 speed OD and triple deuces with wide whites and a new white tuck and roll interior at the time. It would have been a cool custom but there are already a lot of cool custom 54's out there. Same goes for the new 57...i liked it because somebody cut up a popular car to make it faster. Speed is good. Which is why I like these studebakers on here. Studes are cool but fast studes rule.
