Best place for an old Hot Rodder to be looking at. Sweden, Finland, Denmark...? I want to visit some places before moving of course. Mostly English speaking, until I learn the area language. Thanks in advance guys. Michael
ahh the ugly american syndrome i would like to move there only if the place isn't different than here ,been there, so you live in carolina, and want to go to any place that has 3 hours of sunlight for 6 months or 3 hours of darkenss, anyhow there are million of sites to check that out, why not
Good buddy of mine is from Sweden and has shown me tons of pix...looks beautiful...he lives here though...I know in some of the European areas...not sure but I think it was Denmark that if you get 4 or more people together the government will help "fund" your club...I am guessing the taxes are through the roof but it was also listed as one of the happiest places on earth
Big + on Sweden, it is really great, especially in the summertime,, its just beautiful and loads of car meets swaps and cruising, nostalgia dragracing, beautiful nature, long summernites etc, I recommend it
My mother moved to Norway. She's quite happy there. Very little hot rodding that I have seen in two visits.
Get the best of both worlds & stay in the USA. Try Northern Minnesota, North Dakota or across the border in Canada. They speak a scandanavian accent english that you should be be able to pick up on in a short time...yeah sure you betchya....well say there don'tchya know....hey,say there fella....well okay then...well allrighty then...(yeah I'm originally from Minnesota & Norwegian)
Finland if you want the craziest hot-rodders on this planet. Besides that they have better beer than Sweden or Norway. Oh, and you can have saunas with hot blond babes at any give time.
all my grandparents were from Holland and Sweden. I remember when I used to sit on my granpa's lap and he would read the funny papers to me on sundays. Yah, und her is dem Katzenjammer Kids, und der Toonerville trolly! Is it time to go back?
Finland, yes, home of wild hotrodders and the world-renowned Tango Clubs which keep them all smiling(right).
And on the globe...places you mention are in the same bands of la***ude that bracket Alaska, Iceland, and Greenland. You are living at la***ude of North Africa. How do you like snowshovels and frozen fog?
Wise advice there. I always tell people who are contemplating a drastic move to spend two weeks in February and two weeks in August in their chosen destination. If they still think it's the greatest place on earth after that, make the move.
I used to work in sweden regularly. Fantastic country, very sparsly populated outside the main cities. The people are brilliant, really friendly and respectable. The big downside is the climate or more inportantly the darkness. In the mid winter the days are literally a few hours long. I was offered a really good job over there a few years back but rejected it on the grounds that I would be off my head in a month or so This is from someone used to British weather.
Yes we have darkness during the winter and the only thing you can do is have *** or build hotrods.AND the best is.. I live in the northen parts of Sweden and in the summer it NEVER gets dark, and we don´t have the same climate as Greenland. I´s nov 14 and we dont have any snow. It´s 3 degrees above freezepoint. BigO you are welcome to sweden and just ask if you want to know more about something. (and you will do fine here with the English language, almost everyone here understand that.)
Sweden, as has been noted, has a fantastic car culture and it's not just all Volvos and Saabs (although they have some mighty cool Volvo customs). There is a huge American car following there and a surprising number of old hot rods. BUT... Sweden is essentially a so******t country so be preprared for that.
^^^ Absolutey agree. And it's amazing how many World Champion Race Drivers come from there - Both F-1 and Rally - for such a small country. One of the greatest was once asked why so many great race drivers came from Finland, after thinking he said "because we drink too muc milk" the interviewer looked perplexed and asked what he meant "It slows down our reactions and we brake too late, so we go faster through the corners". Many finnish drivers are sponsored by a Finnish milk company so it was quite funny. Also Fazer chocolate candy rocks! plus the whole country pretty much speaks english, very slowly.
I'm am not helping you move!!!! I will help you sell everything , since I was there when you bought it all!BigO is looking for a change of pace, me too...He's a real car guy, taught me alot.I just bought my first model a truck cause of him. Thanks, Yank!!!!!
Holland is a great place to be, but if you live there you hate the rain you see every other day. I have been to the US for 7 holydays, in 30 states and i like it there a lot, but i am always happy to came back home in Holland despite the weather. I think it´s very important were you were born and if your whole family live/lived there for ages. The best place in Europe probably is America a small village in Limburg in the south of Holland, it,s close to Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg. Holland has a lot of American cl***ic cars but it´s not the easiest country to run a hot-rod, but not impossible. Sweden also is very nice, been there two times at the ´Powermeet` and enjoyed every second. Also don´t forget the gasoline is 3 times more the price than in the US.
If you like a flat landscape and lots of water and a nice windy coast - Holland makes a good home for Expats (not Dutch myself). Language is not an issue as really everybody speaks English and the TV is not dubbed. Amsterdam is great to live (really feel at home here)-but one of the most car hostile places on the planet (the city is simply not build for it - best thing is to cycle or use public transport)... But if you are looking for something with more nature...don't go to the Netherlands...the whole country has been reshaped for 2000 years... then the place to go is Northern Europe....and it's great there...only downers are the darkness and the cold in winter, the flies in summer and the price of gas, good food and booze....but the people and the land make up for that 3 times.
In short, Norway too expensive, Finland too drunk, Sweden too boring, Norway beatiful landscape, Finland beatuiful landscape, Sweden best weather, or at least in the southern parts. Car scene is amazing here, and we, the swedes are nice. Not so******ts as some undereducated person mentioned. Oh, and loads of blondes in all three countries. Guess it didn't get short
actually Northern US usually have worse winter, more snow that Mid/southern Sweden , also remeber sweden is a rather long country northern parts are darker during winter, mid/south is not that bad really as some describe it, (the Golf stream effect ) I know several swedes (stockholm citicens) that actually fly over to colorado everynow and then for skiiing , not kidding also around the bigger cities its very much like the in the US, Stockholm in perticular, northern&north west Sweden may be boring to some but beautiful nature, somwhat very similar to norther US and Canada, and no you dont see Polar bears anywhere here, they dont even exist here LOL
I think Sweden is a great choise for u. We have long blondes, cool cars and nice people so u would fit in just fine. So we have dark winters! But thats good for us carbuilding guys cause u could do a lot during the winter and then just crusing around the rest of the year. But then you got to ask yourself where do u wanna go. Cause we are not the one thats gone move....:-]
