Are your rods water/wind proof?

Just building up my A coupe and wondering if or how I should seal up the body. There are lots of areas (naturally occuring) where wind or water could seep in such as under the visor, tank to firewall, cowl sides to firewall, seams in floor, etc.

Do you get wet in rainstorms? Cold drafts? (no not beer)...

Louvered hoods look great, but leak like sieves.
    Cowl vents too.
The holes left from the old vacuum wiper arm stands need sealed.
    Ask me how I know?

I did mix up JB Weld and used it as a seam sealer for my floor and patches in the firewall. Then, two layers of that silver-coated bubble wrap (on top of jute insulation) made the heat problem go away.
Find a good rubber door weatherstrip and you're in business!

    Good luck with your coupe!

Is this question for real? Maybe you want a new car instead of a hot rod.

You're not sugar, a little rain won't melt you.

Considering the original owners didn't get soaked or windburned driving them, it shouldn't be that big of a chore...it's called Windlace for a reason.

Holes through the rockers (all the way through), Bad door rubbers, and rusty cowl areas make mine loud and wet!

No matter how careful I sealed windshield on my 37 Ford it still leaks, learned to carry a towel. Old guy told me years ago that they leaked from new thats why floorboards were rotted out.

I guess it's windproof, nothings blown off yet, and it doesn't melt when I wash it. So I guess it's water proof as well.

Are you talking standing still...or moving at 75 mph...???

I like to listen to my stereo on long drives...and I also like my A/C...from that you may be able to figure out the answer...

If I was building a roadster, I'd make it like a motorcycle - seats covered in tough Corbin bike seat material (if not by Corbin himself), make sure the seats will drain (like HD construction seats), have drain holes in the low spots in the floor pan, have waterproof cycle gauges, make my interior panels of ABS / vinyl, etc. etc. I might have some screw-on side curtains for really fowl weather, with sliding lexan halves to open for some ventilation in the rain and for the toll booths. And a little heater. Forgot to mention REALLY good wipers and bright head and tail lights. And tires not too big they hydroplane in the mist.

But I'm building a closed car, so the plan is to make it as water / air / noise proof as possible and add a tiny AC, too. Lighter on the weather-proof interior materials and heavier on the comfort, I guess.

I think it's an awsome question. I plan to drive my T as much as I can rain, sun, snow whatever. Whats the use of a car if you don't use it and If I am going somewhere in the rain I would like to stay semi dry..

  19. You can do it. Look at a combo of stock rubber/windlace and the offerings from Soffseal.

My 32 pick has a few leaks when it rains,,,the coul vent doesn't leak,,,but there are a couple of leaks around the windshield,

My 32 roadster doesn't have a top,,or wipers,,or fenders,,,so I get real wet when it rains,,a lot of wind all the time and sunburnt when it's hot and frostbit when it's cold.

As others have said it's a hot rod not a new car. HRP

Glad to see everybody told the truth!I've seen some old cars that were pretty tight but most have some leaks. My 48 chevy is fairly tight but I used cheap weather striping.Don't leak water much but got a lot of wind noise.

I put a few drain holes in the floor of my modified, and it seems to work real good......ear plugs take care of the wind real good too!

  25. not that i would figure a rod to be very quiet, but my topolino has a door on door gasket and a door/body gasket...and i'm re-alinging the doors ect as i am installing the new rockers..looks as if it may be fairly tight, i have never seen the door gaskets for a topo....i plan on alot of hiway cruisin, fla, bonn-vile utah...so maybe it wont be a too wet and too much wind howling to be noticed...over my pipes:rolleyes:.................

My 40 was pretty water tight until I blew it apart for paint (28 years ago) and ever since it has leaked pretty good (windshield, cowl vent, mystery leaks). Already ruined one CD player:mad:! But I don't worry about it until I hit the next torrential downpour then I ***** like hell about how I'm gonna fix it........someday.
Wind noise, it's about as areodynamic as a brick so wind noise will always be a problem at speed........

The quick fix for a leaky cowl seal in a down pour is to get some magnetic sign material like you see plastered on the doors of real estates peoples cars. cut it a half inch larger than the cowl door. When it rains slap it on. Since it sticks to metal when you don't need it, stick it the inside trunk lid. You can also carry a roll of good duct tape to seal up the crank out wind shield.

I am made od sugar and dont want to melt, well atleast my wife is. I just got tired of the *****ing about getting wet. You know what I mean?

  28. Yep, mine leaks. BUT DO NOT LOSE THE COWL VENT. You will hate yourself for it later. Nothing like moving air through the car. My back gl*** winds up and down and does not leak. Henry designed a nice gutter system and I replace mine a few years ago. My front gl*** still rolls out and depending on how the rubber lines up when I close it sometimes leaks worse than others. But so what, I wouldn't lose that option either, cracking that thing open is heaven....and yes, it blows your hair back :) Noise is just part of the charm.

Nope, probably has something to do with that big hole in the roof. Here I am bailing out the rainwater after getting drenched at the Cinematic earlier this year. Plans for a roof and sidegl*** are in the initial phases for a winter project. I love the open top but I sit so far back the rain shoots right over the windshield and hits me in the face, along with the spray from the front tires arcing and landing in my lap.
