What do your wives, girlfriends, or family think?

Sounds like you got a point there. Maybe I should try that one day... or maybe not...

 

My wife gets a little upset but is always glad when I tell her I learned something today that will save me some money...but sometimes it's: " so are you online chatting with all of your little car buddies"? Or if a bunch of guys are hanging out at my shop she'll call down and ask if we are having a car party down there...of course we are

 

She's got her message boards, I've got mine. Hers have to do with chick issues and babies (Due April, '09) and mine have to do with cars and art. She doesn't really mind. Which is to say she has no interests in my interests.

My wife just mock's me and asks (While over pronouncing the name) "Baby, are you still on the HAMM-BUH?" Do to the fact I made the mistake of correcting her pronunciation.

I don't have a wife or girlfriend, so I can do whatever I want whenever I feel like it without asking permission from anyone..........Think I'll go back to Vegas next weekend while you guys worry about what your wives think,and wonder if they'll ever allow you to buy that car stuff you want so bad......

 

My wife thinks I am crazy, my office at home is full of carbs, intakes, valve covers, packing material, tools, radios, old flathead parts, catalogs, you name it. But she encourages me and brags me up whenever I finish putting a 2x2 flatty intake with 97's together all spiffy and makes my day. Like I brag her up when she makes a cake or brownies. It is very cool here in my house with all my toys.

 

My wife owns the car in my avatar ,shes quick to tell me when i stink up the place. She also works in my business and does interiors . she likes swap meets and all racing except drags but likes the cars . she also has a thing for 32 three windows and 47 chevys . but drives a cuda. we are building a edmunds modified streeter. we work 14 hrs a day together .on race day she does fuel stagger and push offs .life is good .c

 

Well since the posts are all over the place, here's mine. Been married too long for her to object now. Actually the only friction over the cars or the HAMB is she wants a 57 Chevy, which I can't afford to buy her..............and can't build one until my projects are finished. She will go to the car shows for an hour or maybe two, but not to the races all day.

 

As long as i dont spend too much time, or money on it, and she doesnt have to hear, or see anything concerning it, and it doesnt cut into anything she needs me to do, and i can do it when everyone else is sleeping, she's like totally fine with my hot rod hobby.

 

she doesnt say anything because she spends way more time on the computer buying shoes and handbags then i do here on the hamb.See thats just it for me.You cant complain about me spending money on my ride when more money is spent on trivial shit,like shoes,i mean how many pairs of fucking feet does she have!

 

My wife likes to ride in them and I have her convinced this hobby is cheaper than a gun collection.

 

my girlfriend just shakes her head, but i tell her i could be trying to pick up chicks on the computer but i am just talking to a bunch of dudes..... on the computer..... but its about cars..... haha

When it comes to working on my car she just says "i cant wait for this thing to be done" well little does she know it will never "be done" haha

I moved the computer from the "computer room" to the living room so she could see me... I just laughed. That was over a year ago.

about hot rodding in general. When we met I rode a bad ass chopper, she loved it, but her having my kid changed that real fast. ditched the chopper, got a 53 210 Chevy, sold that (regret doing it), bought the 49 pickup since she really liked the trucks after I told her about one I was trying to get. She hated the time I spent in the garage building it, but loves riding in it.

Now we have a deal. I have to have one driving rod before I can take on another project and I can't owe anything to anyone before I start the build.

She's great, she doesnt care how much $ I spend as long as I pay all the bills on time.

OH AND SHE'S F'ING HOT!!!

 

My "ex" was fine until we had our daughter. After that, I was "stupid" for having more than one car. She "doesn't want to live in a junkyard", I spend more time with my car than her, yada, yada, yada...

I used to work the early dayshift so I would be home by 1 or 2 in the afternoon. I would work on the car(s) from then until 5. Go in, cook dinner and have it ready for when she walked in. After that, it was TV or computer time for us... Oh well, don't have that problem anymore. The next one WILL be into cars... Thats why I'm still single, I don't think there is anymore of them outthere.

 

my wife of 30yrs. is as cool as cool can be about my lifestyle, be it cars or custom bikes. i do my thing and she does her thing and when we finialy get together at some point in the day or nite we do our thing.im a biker, and my son as well,we each built our own bikes. i have one my son has one my wife hasTWO.but ive always been a car guy.as of today we have 5 projects going at one time.only one is hers!!(good thing my son and i run our buisness outlaw steel here at the house . its choppers and hotrods 24 hrs a day here).she works a average of 70 hrs a week away from the house. she is the typical buisness woman.and pays ALL the bills for the family, while my son and i spend EVERY PENNY we get our hands on. on cars, bikes and shop expences.and she has NEVER said a word.her in her buisness clothes and me a long haired full bearded raggedity pants biker and hotrodderwe look like total opposites. but we share the same heart. god i love this girl!!!!!! ken

 

Mine doesn't mind at all. She cracked up when she saw my avatar, I show her other funny ones and pix of the cool cars.

She likes cars, knows how to light an acetylene torch the right way and can do a decent tack weld (after I made her take off her gold bling bling).

She knows an aesthetically bad top chop job from a good one. I drag her to the car shows and cruise nights. I could have done a lot worse with other women, and actually HAVE done worse!

But she also knows cars and my hobby is one of the few things that makes me happy.

 

Um, yes, there are a lot of us out there. . .and yes, a great many of us car gals are single, because, as you can tell from a great many of these posts, a great many of ya car guys have married/engaged/date/are involved with non-car women. . .

It works both ways

I was married to a non-car guy for 10 years. Never again. He didn't get it, he still doesn't get it, he'll never get it, I can't make him get it, and I don't have the energy to try and make him get it. That's a big part of the reason he's my ex .

That being said, it is refreshing to hear about how many here on the HAMB have supportive/understanding partners (male or female) or partners who get that this is not a hobby but a lifestyle. Gives me hope

PS. Since this thread was "brought back from the dead," I wonder if some of the posts made at the start of it, over a year ago, would still be the same today. . .Just food for thought. . .

 

My wife rocks and my 4 year daughter is even better. They love my car and support and help when needed.

 

My Daughter is into it..will sometimes come in and look over my shoulder..and pick out the cars or Art that she likes. And will help me out in the shop on the A build , when she isnt doing the girly thing with my wife.

My Wife isnt into it, (she likes red cars)..thats her criteria for a nice car..simple.
she thinks im going to kill myself building cars..who knows she might be right...maybe I will die doing this, but its what I like and its a part of me, she accepts that, and even supports it..
My sisters Father and Mother all know..its a part of who I am and have accepted it many years ago.

 

My wife would MUCH rather have me downstairs in the garage than out chasing skirts and getting boozed up.

 

What does my wife think. Next time I see her or her boyfriend i'll ask.
