You can buy everything from Speedway Motors. But you are limited to a straight axle or a 4 inch drop axle. Plus you have to use disc brakes. They sell a conversion kit to use 53-6 F100 brakes on early Ford spindles. But I bought 2 complete drum ***emblies off ebay with the ends just torched off the I beam axle. I cut the ends down and welded them to a length of schedule 80 pipe. The early ford steering arms fit the F100 spindles. Plus if you want a slight drop you can just go to a muffler shop, they usually have a tubing bender. (Harbor freight tubing benders will blow up the jack on thick wall pipe.) Now you can use the stock master cylinder and brake lines. Plus you can see the dope *** backing plates for the drum brakes. One thing about the early Ford pattern is the cool vintage wheels are usually cheaper in that bolt pattern.
I like a transverse leaf spring because they look cool but they dont work as well as parallel leaf springs. You can also do this to early chevy truck front ends. Use p***enger car brake drums for the lug pattern. The problem is the spindles for trucks are different than cars. But if you weld up your own axle the point is moot. If you have a pretty solid idea of where you are going with it you can have it basically in in a day. Sometimes it takes longer to take the original front end off than to put the new one on.

i'm only going on memory from several dacades ago, but didn't most of the g***ers back then use econoline front ends; axle, springs, spindles, etc.?

The econoline axles and A100 use traditional steering so you have to make new steering arms to use the factory steering box. Plus the spring pads are too wide for most car frames so you have to narrow them. But they are cool..

mrrich - good points. i'm ***uming that the unibody jtrammell refers to is the unibody pickup. if that's the case, i'm thinking that most of the econoline stuff would practically bolt right in.

Yeah, unibody is not very specific. I was thinking Falcon but unibody means pickup generally?

Listen to Mr. Rich, the man rules. I used Econoline in my car, narrowed it 7" after reading a couple articles about Mr. Rich and Steve Magnante making some AWB cars.
