Skots, here on the HAMB sent me this. His sickness for aircraft may be even more perverse than his sickness for hot rods. Lookie.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmbH1ApUG8M
thats almost like the black bird.sr-71.but on the ground without wings.. friggen black bird will do over 2,000 MPH That ride is fast as hell for being on the ground...one sneeze and yer a ball of flaming aluminum
Balls of br*** but I wonder if he can hear a thing now? Damn, think of what it took to keep that thing running straight and true.
I got that too I have been trying to figure out where I can mount those on my coupe for the last hour now
I remember them getting ready. If I remember right, that Andy Green is a test pilot with all kinds of stupid crazy rides under his belt. I think the wheels on that car are gint aluminum rims with carbon fiber threads wound around them ten million times because no rubber tire could stand up.
Somewhere, there's a guy with a flathead thinking, "if I can just stroke it another 1/8th of an inch, I think I can take that guy".
"hey if I stroke my flathead another 1/8th of an inch, I think I can take that guy". hahahahaa ? wait a minute ...
Very cool vid. Cheers for sharing. There's a team down here in NZ preparing to do a similar thing. http://www.jetblack.co.nz/site/cms/home
Richard Noble is the team head, he held the LSR at around 635 mph with Thrust 2...Andy Green also drove the JCB stream liner at Bonnieville a couple of years ago when they took the record for diesel cars.....the same team are currently building a car to go over 1000mph. as a side, both thrust 2 and thrust ssc are at my local museum (Coventry Museum of Road Transport) and they have a simulator ride of the record breaking run that is a must do for any petrol head.......the JCB streamliner has also been there but is currently at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gayden....that's only 30 mins away as well!!
Very impressive, until you do a little math. The British corporations that funded that project invested 10's of millions of dollars to go 700+. The average Bonneville Hot Rod racer goes 200+ for much less than $100,000. For the best bang for the buck, and usually without major corporate involvement, I think we do pretty damn good with our home built LSR cars.
Rich, Thats almost unAmerican of you!!!LOL .With the huge $$$$$$ invested in 355 small blocks that run round in circles under the guise of "stock cars", and the even bigger $$$$$$ in Top Fuel, you could almost be mistaken for being envious!!!! I do agree though. Its always incredible to me that Al Teague (and others like him) have attained the speeds they have, on such low budgets in basically home garages!
Thats just the same old thing - you know how getting the last five horsepower out of the motor costs twice what the rest of the motor did all together! Its the same principle, taken to extremes. From what I remember, they never exactly had a huge cash surplus to play with. It certainly was anything but a "money no object" type operation. I met Richard Noble once. Naturally I asked what 650mph felt like. "Quite sedate" came the answer. "Its not like its all flashing past in front of you". "What?" I was compelled to ask "Your past life?" Well - he laughed anyway.
i was there . so was breedlove . fought rain all the gtime . finally got a good day . the english lite it up ! breedlove just fell behind & never caught up ! .. thx .. steve
<cue 'Spirit of America'> "half airplane half ordo..." Someone needs to find the Jack Conrad bus, stuff a gaggle of Packards into it and get the whole team into the 200mph club. That would show those limey toffs! I lose sleep over this thing, WTF did that tail and faux intakes come from in 35?
