Well I posted ago that Knucklehead found a Nomad that actually he let me get... hence all the new listings in my signature... but we dragged it home out of a barn that is almost in Canada and got back around 1:00am...

as I mentioned .... it has a v8 in it that looks to be stock... but I am wondering...

obviously the engine has been rattle canned... and I am not sure what that sticker on the valve cover would have been so I am su****ious....

I am not sure how to read this, but any help would be appreciated....

Even as a Ford guy I'd love a 57 Nomad, one of my all time favorites. Nice find!

Looks to be a 300 HP 327 to me. With the AFB carb and the double hump heads. I love 57 Nomads. Had one when I got married and drove back and forth to Pennsylvania 5 times while I was in the Navy stationed at Willow Grove NAS.

If you post your vin tag, on the door post, not the sequential #'s, just the first few.
If it matches the cowl tag it should start with vc57cl.......
v= v8, if no v then it was originally a 6. c= belair, which all nomads were 57== the year, and then cl =the ***embly plant. after that is the sequential vin #
on your cowl tag the cl4330 means that it was the 4330th body ***embeled at the (cl) I think cleveland plant.
style # should check out to be a nomad, and I will try to look up the paint and trim for you, unless someone beats me to it.

    lucky you! nice find!

The number on the front of the engine T0225O means it was made in Tonnawanda (S) NY on Feb 25 and the O will tell you what options the engine had. My guess is that it is a 283 because of the small double humps on the heads.

Looks sporty with the Pontiac Rally II's on it. Really, with a very careful and thorough detailing, and some wheels and tires, this car wouln't need anything.

I thought the casting numbers you wanted were on the p***enger side rear of the block, at least that's what everyone tells me. But that might only apply to later engines.

And that should be a clue what that sticker on the valve cover was. I've seen engines from the Tonnawanda plant with a sticker saying they were built there. One of those "Built with pride at. . ." type things.

No double hump heads in "57. I suspect, as stated, you have a 300 hp 327. The numbers gurus will confirm. Squirrel?

Could be a 283" with later heads...altho the valve covers look like 283 to me ...327" covers had a small rectangular area in the middle of the top...place for a gold and black "327" sticker"...

My Chevrolet parts book for 1962 which also includes parts and codes for earlier years does not have a "O" code for 1957 it stops at "M". The double hump heads were used on the fuel injection and high hp engines. Back in the day the double hump heads were referred to as fulie heads. The ones with the single triangle in the center of rectangular block were called power pack heads. As I remember the small double hump heads were 283 and when the 327 came out in 1962 they had the larger humps and were used on the higher hp engines. My memory is getting bad with age so I may be off a little.

Look at the bolts that hold down the valve covers. Are they across from each other or staggered. That will give you and Idea of what the heads are.

Looks like 327 heads on a 283...but I'm kind of guessing...the last character in the engine number should be a letter, but not the letter "O"....is it really a C? sure is hard to see in the pictures, and yes, I realize how hard it is to get a good picture, and to see the stamped letters clearly.

    The book says that "C" is a 265 V8 with a 3 speed.

the bolts look even and not staggered... I have been trying to see the back of the block codes but all I can make out is that 4 1 on the back next to a calendar wheel...stretching with mirrors, lights, and camera I still can't make it out... are the front of the block numbers enough? or do I need casting numbers off the driver side by the top bell housing thanks for all your help everybody...

does the block have provisions for side mounts? 58' and newer had them. the casting #'s on the drivers side bellhousing flange will id the motor. what is the vin on the door post? cool ride!

I am betting it will be fun. if I can afford it (which I can't) i'll put some radir tri ribs on it with some rear slicks and cruise it.

With the valve cover hold down screw across from each other they are early heads. Don't remember when they went to the staggered hold down location but probably early 60's.

If I remember correctly the clock and the numbers around it had to do with the shift and time the block was cast. The casting number will tell you more about the block. There are also casting numbers under the valve covers that will help ID the heads.

The motor mount comment is a good one and will tell you if the engine is pre 58.

Staggered bolt covers were used from 55-mid 59, straight from 59 on. The heads are newer than 59 though, as the double humps were used starting on the 327.

The block stamped number has a leading zero in the date, so I'm pretty sure it's newer than 57. Early date codes were only 3 digits if it was from Jan to September
