I absolutely hate this question! Sometimes I answer "Why yes, it's a 1:1 scale AMT (or Revell) that I glued together."

...the little old lady who carefully looked over my T-bucket and finally asked "is it all original?"

Sometimes the look on old folks faces is one of mystery, fear, confusion, just for a second they are in a time warp of past memories..then there are the ones that exclaim " you really destroyed the value of that classic, when you went and did that!" Like I really care..then there are the girls that want to jump in and go for a ride!....

People will walk around my truck looking it over, then ask "what is it and what year is it?"
Apparently the "27 Essex" painted on the back of the box isn't big enough for most folks to see. :p

(Yeah, it's on a trailer. This was the day I bought it and brought it home. It wasn't running, and it was -30C outside. Get over it. LOL)

  6. ....."yes, it's glued together with testosterone..." .......

  7. "What idiot let their daughter ride in that death-trap with that hoodlum?"

Err... The hoodlum is the daughter's father.
She isn't allowed to ride with any other hoodlums - they have to ride with her, in HER death trap. :D

They tell their kids, "That's one of those gearheads. They don't play soccer or anything useful like us, they just waste oil and cause global warming. And have grease under their fingernails. Don't look at him, it just encourages their irresponsible behavoir "

At least thats some of the looks I get.

  9. Holy Toledo! I never thought of jeepsters being chick magnets but I've seen some very cool ones. And I'd love to hear some of the stories if those old rides could talk.

I have no clue, but I get thumbs ups, compliments, and honks from every age group, color, and sanity types. I can't make it from my home to Home Depot without 2 or 3 comments (which is only 2-3 miles away). From questions on which year (from 1948-1959), to how much is it worth, to is it for sale...I've heard them all.

My favorite is when the cops pull up to me asking to trade, my cadillac for there cruiser. They're like...I'll even let you play with the lights and siren. Kinda tempting.

I had a guy who wore a red bandana ask me if I had a catalytic converter. I guess he was an environmental type. I said no, because I run leaded aviation gas :p

The funniest thing I ever heard, was a friend of mine drives a 40 Ford coupe. We pulled in to a choke and puke, and this old lady asks us what year VW it was?? He just said without a pause: "It's a 83 model." Oh! she says, we have a PT Cruiser now.

I mostly don't care what they think or say. I have serious issues with the hypocrites that talk green, and the ones that talk about where else the $$$ should be spent.

I get the $$$ thing at open type shows with the big classics. Hope to have a surprise for that some day in the future.

  15. I get comments every time I drive my Hot Rod or Goat. Different comments from different types of people, but at traffic lights and gas stations (especially with the Hot Rod) I get lots of comments.

How can I park right next to it and let my kids climb all over it while wearing their baseball cleats?

What do they think? Couldn't tell ya. What do they ask when referring to my 56 ford courier? "Do you carry dead bodies in that thing?" My reply? No, I left my hearse at home. This is a sedan delivery.

some kid that was selling candy outside the 7-11, literally said those exact words the other day when I pulled up in my T with zoomies.

  28. They walk up and say "What's that, a 55 or 56". "My dad had one just like it 'cept his was a '57", "We had one just like that when we got married 'cept it was a 4 door", "My brother had one like that when he got out of the service. That a stick shift? His was an automatic". "My uncle had one just like that 'cept his was black & white and was a '54 & he had a glass top in his, other than that it was exactly like that one", "What kind of motor is in it"?, "Where'd ya find that"?, "Wanna sell it"?, "Can ya still get parts for that"?, "Did ya chop that top"?, "Is that a Fairlane"?, "Damn, ya can see the whole motor"! Y'all know the drill, same stuff everywhere ya go. Had a little ole young chick blow me a kiss the other day though.. whoo hooo .. !!

I've started a collection of pics taken while out in the T. This was the first one. They were beside me for a couple of miles

  30. Had one kid ask "Is that a Jaguar?" while I working on my 53 GMC Panel Truck!

Easy mistake to make I suppose.....!!!!!

If it wasn't for the fact he seemed genuinely interested, I was going to get him to hold the HT lead while I checked for sparks.
