i would value some opinion on mounting the fuel tank on front of my roadster, like the g***er set ups. this is about a "looks" thing, but i have some reservation about saftey. not a racer, just a now and then run around hot rod. the tank i have is a Speedway aluminum. thought about adding foam. thanks, pkj
Lots of negatives on this idea. The obvious one is the potential for an explosion in the event of even a minor front end impact, but beyond that, a 2 or even a 5 gallon tank provides very little cruising mileage. Who wants to stop for gas every 60-100 miles? Adding foam will only reduce the capacity making for more frequent stops. A 5 gallon tank, which would give more time between fill ups, is also pretty large for the front of most roadsters. Some folks have started to mount a smaller tank and plumb it as a radiator overflow. Not only do you get the "look", but it serves a purpose.
On this car the Moon tank was fully functional, and used for racing. When driving the car on the street I had a 14 gallong tank in the bed that was used. The Moon tank was empty for street use. Not a good idea to drive around town with a Molitov ****tail on th front of your car.
