White smoke is a good sign, right? We are on call in case my friend has to evacuate her pit bull rescue in Canyon Country, CA. Rescuing 400 rescue pits is a daunting task. Good luck Bad Bob. It ain't over til the fire is out.

Everyone on here keep saying to water down the house and turn on the sprinklers..... ummm we've had a water shortage here for some time and the Fire fighters have specifically asked people to not turn on water so that they can have all the water pressure they need at the hydrant.

Nothing's worse than a fireman trying to save the house that IS on fire and has no water pressure.

    How bad is it:

In Sylmar (San Fernando Valley), the fire was so HOT, that it melted street signs and firemen didn't even know where they were on the map. It was so hot in Sylmar yesterday that a couple of fire hoses melted!!!! because the pavement / concrete was so hot. 80 MPH winds there, the worst conditions to fight a fire in.

Luckily we have the best firefighters in the world here, unfortunately, they gets lots of practice.

Hey Bob, I don't know your exact situation or the condition of fire in your area, but as I career firefighter I would suggest leaving if the local authorities requested it. Alot of Firefighter fatalities happen trying to save someone that refused to follow the advice of people who understand fire alot more. I say they understand it more, that doesn't mean they can tell you what fire will do. Fire can be a vicious monster and do totally unpredicatable things. When you say your going to stay and fight what is your plan?

I hope nothing but the best for you, please be safe!

I've been following this thread since it started. I'm glad you are OK Bob.
Best of luck to you folks battling those fires, either protecting your own homes or protecting everyone else.
It's SO rare that we have big fires here that when it happens it's even more dangerous because of all the site-seers.
Some of you folks certainly do pay for your "nice climates". We don't have those extremes in this part of the world (no.. not all of Canada is buried in snow. ;) )
    Stay safe...

This sucks I hope everyone remains safe . good luck with the fight if needed Bob.Unreal the amount of ash here in La Mirada .

  9. HA HA HA!! When I say i'm gonna stay and "fight",I mean that I'm gonne keep everything wet to deter sparks and embers. NOT FLAMES!!! If the flames start coming this way....I'M OUT!!!!!
Like I said earlier...i'm not stupid! Right now the flames are passed me,but that dpesn't mean it's over. I've got the truck gassed up,loaded up,and ready to bail...

  10. Yea,my mother-n-law lives in Cerritos and said her pool and yard are covered with 2" thick of ash...

Glad to hear you are O.K. I tried to send you or the family needed a place to stay. We were out of town with the girls (Jonas Brother Concert, San Diego), but our family was at our house bunkered down.

Just had a new fire start on the hill above us. Hopefully wind keeps same direction.

  13. The cops are telling us that it's a voluntary evacuation,in my neighborhood. It's manditory over where the Village Idiots meet. It doesn't look threatening right now,and hasn't for quite a while.
My son got called into work,at Islands Resturant, cause there are so many people that can't go home or have lost their homes.
My wife got called in also, and she said people are coming and buying $500 and up,worth of clothes, cause they lost everything!!! That sucks! She said they just can't stop crying while they're shopping. Many are people we know very well...
    Sad times...

Mr. Bob.......stay away from the fire..........and run when it gets closer.........I used to live in SD and my family called back in the early 90's checking on me.......but, it looks like you have everything under control.......but, keep that water on and spray down "everything".

And half priced Bleunami's for everyone...

BTW, besides the fires, isn't California supposed to crack off an float away sometime soon? I'd be even more worried about that...I don't think your garden hose will help you there... just saying...

FWIW, it was 41 and snowy here today.

    Just messing with you--
    Glad you're okay, Bob! :D

  28. That's funny, cause I drove Dillon's Shoebox to pick him up at Islands. We had dinner and looked out the window at the burnt up hillsides and houses. No Bleunami...just nachos,lol...

Aw, man, you're bringing me down...the Bleunami is FABLED at work here now because of our trip out there...we all crave one from time to time, despite our sickness of them after 4 weeks' worth of 'em.
The shoebox has become a sort of Island's Taxi service, no? :D
