How many people have used there cams? how ong ahve they been around? I am putting together a 327 with 461 heads and 2 afb carters. i am hoping to get at least 425hp. has any one had them custom build one for you, and if so how did you like it?
I've used them for the cams I put in the last 3 Nailheads I've built for hot rods and have been real happy with them. I had them build me one for the Nailhead I put in my drag/ski this past year and was really impressed how it performed. I told them what I was planning on doing and they hit the grind spot-on. I'll deffinately use them again for the next cam I need.
The sign on this link should tell you how long they've been around. http://www.garageart.com/detailpage.asp?ID=4073&Category=Drag~Racing~Signs~-~Art
Crower-Schneider is how they started out in the mid 50's. I've used a couple of them in flat head Fords and small block Chevies. Had no problems. Smokey
Dave Schneider has been around...and he's knowledgeable, and a great guy. He did a SBC 30-30 Duntov regrind for me, and reground my HD shovelhead cam...
.030 over 283, ForgedTrue 12 1/2 to 1's, 2.02 angle plug heads, roller cam, roller rockers, Carillo rods and a lot of other very expensive parts and labor. A VERY high buck engine back in the late 70's. Ran it two years with no problems. Max
had em regrind a stocker for my early model olds....just enuff at an idle and plenty of ass thru the mid to top end...good, cheap, effective. i highly recommend..
It was LONG time ago but it had some kind of aftermarket 2-bolt main caps. possibly Summers Brothers. Had a Crankshaft Company crank in it too. I don't remember if there was anything on or in that little thing that wasn't massively massaged. I do remember that with 5.13 rear gears it was very responsive!!! Oh the good old days! Max
ran them alot in 283's and 327's with very good results-tell them what you have and they will get you on the right track--so many of these big $$ companies either won't talk to you or recommend something too radical--AND--never had one of their cams go flat !!!!
I ran one in my 289 Mustang for quite some time back in the 80's and it worked great. Mine was a catalog grind though so I can't comment toward the custom grinds.
An old dead boss/friend of mine said he helped start Schneider cams in the 50's. His name was Cecil Roper and he was in the Bean Bandits. I asked the pack of original Bean Bandits guys at the 07 primer nationals about him, and they confirmed it. Said he woulda made alot of money but didn't like to pay taxes! Sounded like ole Cecil RIP... TP Oh yeah they were using the Iron Cross way before it became trendy, well recently trendy anyway!
I had em grind a cam for me a couple of years ago. Great products & great customer service. I will use them again.
thanks for all the input. now i have decied to use them for sure. even more so after hearing this 327 with a schneider cam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uyqeN8eZC4 does anyone know whos car it is. if so i whould like some more details on the motor. i love the sound
Another thumbs up for Dave. My old boss and he grew up together, and I've used his cams before. Heck, I even smogged his Ferrari once! Nice guy, great product. Cool decal too! OG before JJ was born!
I install schniders cams in as many as six cars a year most are mopar and a few chevys . I have three sprint car engines that see 7500 to 8500 revs for 5 mins at a shot flag to flag , twenty nights a year and no flat cams . excelent products .c
If my memory is not incorrect Dave Schnieder was a contempory of Paul Schiefer, Jim Culbert, and Ed Stewart, and , I believe was a member of the San Diego Roadster Club in the 1940s although, I remember he ground cams , but I don't remember when he started grinding cams, Seems to be me it was about 1947 or so. traderjack
Call Jerry and he can grind up anything you want to throw at him I would guess. I keep 4 or 5 on the shelf most times. Re-grinds or new cores, they can tell you what you need, or let you screw up your motor however you want. Around long time, got lots of ink when AJ Foyt started using their stuff on the sprint car circuits. And their website will tell you which oil will let your flat tappet cam live long and run hard. K
I run Schneiders in all of our nailheads. Great grinds, excellent customer service, and reasonable prices. -Lee Atomic Radio www.atomicpinup.com
