I was informed this morning by Joanie Johnson Jocko Johnson died yesterday of a massive heart attack. Jocko's history, from custom work with Barris to his brilliant dragster designs have made him a true inspiration to many of us. Up until the day he died he was trying to literally reinvent the engine with his Power ring design. He also had plans to go 500 mph at Bonneville with a radical streamliner that had titanium brushes instead of rubber tires. It was also steered with one's feet by wing flaps. To see his work close up was to experience truly unique thinking.

To me the man was a genius and I am glad to have got to know him over the years. He will be sorely missed and there will never be another like him.

    RIP Jocko

Last time I talked to him he mentioned some company from Iceland wanting to buy it. He turned to making furniture which I think paid more.

He called me up a year or so ago to tell me he'd fired it up and that it had made such a racket that Marines from the military base were sent over to investigate the noise. He was pretty happy with that!

Sorry to hear this, always admired Jocko as one who could think outside the box, on many levels.
