Now don't laugh, But I actually stopped and asked about buying a little old lady's black pacer woody wagon the other day. It was just so bizzare it was cool.
The sad part is that I'm friends with a dude who practically worships those ugly fuckers. I found him a pristine one in Clearwater that was an old lady's car with low miles & called him to tell him about it and he ended up buying it. I swear he acted like I'd discovered the lost Ark of the Covenent or something. Wierd.
I think I passed those Saturday. If so, they were there last year too. I think the one on the right has factory aluminum slots. Those might be worth something to the right guy. I'd agree that down here those are as vintage as you'll find.
My buddies Dad had one when we were kids. Were were REQUIRED to refer to it as "The thing of beauty"! We didn't have to complain about not being able to see when we went anywhere...
My mom had one of those when I was little, I used to call it R2D2 cuz of how it looked and it used to keep running when she'd shut it off so it sounded like R2D2 also.
I'm not sure, but I THINK those things had a longer door on the passenger side than the driver's side, so entry into the back seat area was easier. When I was a kid in Wisconsin, my Dad worked at the Kenosha AMC plant. There was a guy on the other street who worked there before my dad's time, and had one in the garage...this was the early '80s. It was given to him by the company as a reward or something. It didn't have hardly any miles on it and there were spider webs in the interior, because the guy said that even though it was a free gift, it was too ugly for him to drive! It was burgundy or maroon, with aluminum wheels. Wonder where that thing is now. -Brad
