i've had people give me complements on my truck and give me thumbs up.
then there are those who need to get rid of the phone, gps, etc. i've had so many close calls. i'm surprised my truck stops fairly well for mechanical drums! i've been rear-ended by a blonde in high school cuz she was on her cell phone. not surprising that had no damage. what surprised me was that her air bag didn't deploy. wish more people could give me my space. at least my truck is made of steel and not plastic!

Last Thursday. I'm in center lane. Dumb bitch is in right. She suddenly decides to turn left and cuts me off. Hears my brakes squeal and freaks. She slams her brakes and I've got nowhere to go. She was going to cross 3 lanes and admitted she didn't even look. Now I have to deal with this shit. I'm more pissed that my nice, solid fenders are now fucked. Hope we can save them.
The appraiser is coming tomorrow so we'll see what he has to say and also see how American Hobbyist deals with a claim. Mike

I drive mine daily with very few problems from other drivers. Usually just people taking pics with cell phones and a lot of questions at the stop lights.

  4. I have seen no difference than anything else I drive. Most people are very curtious but it's the few that drive like idots and they dont care what you're driving.

4900 lbs of Coupe DeVille makes 'em think twice.

  8. The people that drive like assholes are going to drive like assholes and I don't think it matters if you have a Model A, a new jellybean car, or a goddamn Sherman Tank. Around here, we have places where they give you two lanes to make left turns and all the time these asshats will switch lanes in the middle of the intersection - once I had a guy in a Ford Festiva cut me off pulling that shit. A Ford Festiva! I would have thought I'd run over a speed bump for Pete's sake. I wish I'd let him hit me now, that's the same car I blew the motor in a few weeks later.

But that's why I keep driving a beater - if someone hits it, well.. someone did hit it, and I never even bothered to get a hammer out and pound the bumper back into place where it was pulled out a couple of inches. His car needed a fender (torn) and a new header panel (bent beyond repair). If this clown had been off the phone and paying attention he never would have hit me in the first place, some fucker with an eastern European accent, probably fresh off the boat from Poland or someplace.. how do people drive there?

I think it's just a reality of many drivers today, you just notice it more when you're in something you sincerely care about protecting.
In L.A., there’s definitely a general lack of attention, consideration, and a pervasive entitlement complex. Everyone seems to think they always have the right of way, and they'll drive how they damn well please, illegal or not, and everyone else just has to deal with it.

Wow man, I understand your anger, but no need to insult the guy just because he has an accent... a good portion of our great nation has one and it is made by generations of immigrants. At least he made the effort to speak English...

  13. I've had folks get right on my tail. I'll stand on it open up a gap and in no time they are right back on me. They refuse to pass when I slow down. Not sure what they are trying to prove other than getting a better look.

There's a reason that I don't drive my coupe during peak times. Too many drivers with no driving skill, an attitude and plenty of distractions. I think they've made cars so easy to drive, any idiot can use one. I wish mating was more difficult and required some skill. We'd have fewer retards on the planet.

I usually mind my own business but have a close call at least one every 6-7 times I take the car out. It's not just us. Talk to truckers and bikers as well. People just can't fathom that not everthing stops and steers like their new Honda.

my car gets respect. when my car is visited by other cars, those cars kiss my cars rings, and bring gifts of fresh baked goods, and fruit.

    Very interesting thread.

I get tailgated quite a bit myself in the 67 Stang. I don't have a 5-speed or overdrive, so I drive about 70 on the freeway and with an old engine, I'd rather not rev much higher.

A friend of mine has a system that I am planning on using : he angles the passenger side of he windshield washer nozzle toward the sky. This way when someone tailgates he hits the washer and hoses them off. It apparently aggravates people... Go figure. Since I live in sunny So-Cal, where I don't really need the washers, I would probably turn up both nozzles and put dirty dish water in the washer tank to drive the point home even more...

Thanks man. I'm fine, just pissed. I always say "it's just a car" so we'll see how I feel when it's back on the road. Hell, maybe it'll be better than it was.;) Most of the damage is bolt on stuff (other than the fenders). It'll get fixed. Thanks, Mike

when i had my truck, i never let people cut me off, especially at lights with a right hand go around when theres no left hand turn lane, id just drop the hammer and they would either not keep up, or let me pass, the smoke show was a bit much but hey, i had one guy bump me doing it and i was forced off the road once too in it.
    ohhhhhhh no it doesnt.
not half an hour ago, i was going down the road in my 92' Brougham, and a lil' jeep patriot whips right up on my ass, im doing 37 and the limit is 30, next thing i know he trys to pass, now the 305 isnt a powerhouse in that tank so he gets by and right as he's next to me i let the horn loose and he flips me off and cuts in front just befor the cork-screw turns.
and after that, i still caught him at the light. held the horn for 10 seconds while he yelled out the window at me for not letting him pass.

I did up a rig like that, i put the jug in the trunk and drilled holes for the nozzles in the tail panel. It was an O/T car but it kept people off my bumper. Didn't really care that it pissed people off, I was young and dumb. There is probably some damn federal regulation against it now.

When drivign my stock looking '47 Ford Truck I have noticed that people treat me differently. They immediately assume I am driving slow - even when I am not. I put up with this only a short time - now when I notice them exhibiting erratic behavior (darting over to pass) - I have at times let them know that there's no stock flatty under the hood. Even with a 3.25 rear end the 392 Hemi has no problems in the acceleration department. It can be REALLY funny when you blow past some nit wit with a 60 year old truck.

OTOH I have noticed that when driving a more obvious "Hot Rod" car I get extra respect from some and distain from others. I could really care less either way, but people are funny - you gotta just roll with the punches sometimes.

I just stare into the soul of the person tailgating through my rear view mirror until they make eye contact and it gets uncomfortable... they always break eye contact first... then after they back off I still stare 'em down and they just disappear. If they're passing me, I cock my head all the way to left so it's OBVIOUS i'm staring them down as they pass. They RARELY look up when they pass. They know i'm up to no good. Plus the 2 foot cheater bar sticking out of the front driverside bed pocket of the Willys catches their attention too. My truck does 45 mph comfortably, and I don't push it any harder. I don't try to speed up for anyone either.

Screw 'em. If they don't like how slow i'm driving... pull over and let's discuss... jackass...

I used to keep a bag of big marshmallows with me...when someone is tailgating me, I grab a handful, and let 'em see them as I hold them out the window...then, if they still don't back off, throw them up and back at their windshield. At 70 they look just like golf balls. They usually stay back after that. If not, we can pull over and "discuss" it. If nothing else, follow them where ever they go, and scare the hell out of them.

    But that's just me....

I pulled out of Lowes recently, passing a tuner who was leaving the same lot a bit further down. He caught up to me after a block, stereo was buzzing heavily through badly fried speakers. He gave me the look as he went by and revved up his motor whiney-whine-whine.

I'm not sure what bugged me more, his crappy stereo or his crappy car. I was rolling about thirty though and punched it hard enough to squeal the tires. Let him hear the sound of built cubes. Side pipes hitting like a hammer directly onto his open windows.

Then I let him go with his new-found feeling of inadequacy.

I swear there is NOTHING in the world that makes me go from sane to insane in a matter of seconds than a typical spoonfed robotic puppet of society driving a typical climate controlled cage on wheels!! Its gotten worse lately and thats a fact! Whenever I catch these people at the next light if theyre not looking at me theyre acting like tough shit in their climate controlled cages, BUT the second I get out of my car/truck they immediately AVOID confrontation. These are the same idiots that are soo oblivious as to why they get a fist in thier face or better yet a bullet scraping thier scalp after they provoked road rage! GOD I HATE SOME PEOPLE! In my opinion this is a serious issue that will never get better until more people suffer consequences for thier stupid actions, people have too much freedom, and it they should make it harder for people to get driver's licenses.
