Hello all. I hate to kick a dead horse after its been beaten so badly but I'm gonna ask another s10 frame swap question. I've got a 1949 chevy 3100 pickup and a 2001 ext. cab s10 frame. I know I have to shortin the wheelbase but to what length do I want it? Should I go 118 like the other s10 swaps or should I go with 116 the original wheelbase (I dont really care what the final wheelbase is as long as the wheels are centered in the wells and the cab to bed gap is kept small). Also is it necessary to mount the cab up off the frame ( I've seen anywhere from 3-5 inches off the frame). I realize the higher you mount it the less interference you will have but I'm just worried about being too top heavy. Has anyone seen any handling issues from this? Any help from all you s10 frame swappers would be much appricated. THANKS

Don't think top heavy should be problem. this was stock when we got it, and son and I did a lot of body work and repainted. Put 3" body lift on, and replaced front with SFA (solid front axle). This was driven from Illinois to Laramie Wyoming where son was going to school. He had a blast with it. It is about ready to start now with a 355 V8 that we rebuilt and swapped into it.
