just wanted to say hi to everyone, i've been away for what seems like forever. just got back tonight from a rather uneventful at sea period. few things of interest while i was out. about a week out skipper says "we are going to have a racing legend aboard today to sign autographs and chat with the crew." so who flys out to the ship, but Richard Petty! Finally someone i wouldnt mind seeing visits the ship! got to chat with him for a bit and had him sign my issue of garage #16 (will be put up in a HAMB auction soon) turns out this was his first time on a navy ship and he was thrilled to be there! or maybe he was thrilled he got to leave at the end of the day!!! haha, anyway just wanted to say i'm back, and i'm grateful for the things i have in life. good times and good friends. heres a pic of my dumbass with mr petty and a shot of an "at sea" sunrise!
Welcome back. Thank you for your service to our country. We all sleep soundly because of what you and the others in uniform do for us. Glad you got meet Mr. Petty. He's one of the goodguys. Frank
Welcome back to the world and please accept my feeble attempt at thanking you for your service, sacrifice, and the sacrifices your family makes for you to keep us safe and secure.
Welcome back. I just got home also. That's cool meeting Petty. We didn't get any cool people coming to meet us though.
Welcome back. Meeting Richard Petty would be cool. Do you get internet access while you are at sea? One of my nephews just signed up to go in the Navy. I would assume he will become familiar to the sea duty thing.
welcome back , i remember how good it felt coming home off a tour . i was on a carrier from 82-86. the only visitor that sticks out in my mind was katherine bach (dukes of hazared) sport'in her daisy dukes. what is your job ? i see you are a 3rd class
we get internet access to an extent. there are certian times allotted to do certain things online. microsoft outlook is our email program and also the lifeline! as far as real internet, like HAMB forget it. maybe if youre lucky you might be able to check your bank account. outlook is up about 90% of the time your nephew will learn to love it for communicating to family and friends. best of luck to him, and your family! oh man i bet things were alot different then!!! haha, catherine bach would have been the best thing ever to come to the ship! i am a structure mechanic for the aircraft onboard. the pic is fuzzy, i'm a second class. my job ranges from aluminum skin repairs to composite skin and honeycomb repairs. we are the metal/composite/weld shop all in one and it's truely like a playground! thanks to all of you for the kind words and the support.
Stay safe.........PM me your shipping addy and I can send you some Magazines...... Chris Nelson Kansas

Welcome back & thanks.... Good one meeting The King....he's never refused an autograph for anyone...just some useless info for you!
Richard was in Nam in 1966, but I was stuck in a bottle and could not sober up to see him at the time
Welcome back, and we all thank you for serving and protecting this great country. May GOD add his blessings to you, Hank
Sweet......welcome back. I know the feeling.......I'm on the USS Carter Hall right now - halfway through our deployment. We return the end of March.
Thx for serving & welcome back! Petty's a lion heart & dropping in to see you guys & gals proves it again.
Welcome home! And as others have said so much better than I ever could, thanks you from the bottom of my heart for the sacrifices you and your brothers have made and continue to make to protect our freedoms here at home! God bless you and yours!
Neat deal. Did Petty come and go on a COD? Bet that was better than 200 mph in some old mopar! Congrats on a safe deployment and welcome back home. Gary (Lcdr, USN, retired) (USS RANGER, USS CORAL SEA, USS TARAWA)
Man, Glad to hear you are back from an uneventful cruise. Cnograts on spending some time with the "King". Thanks from one veteran to another for your continued service ! 41 Dave
Welcome back!!! Thanks for all you do. I recall taking guys like Richard Petty out the the boats when I was a COD Aircrewman in VR-30......no matter how fast their race car was, that ride in a COD was something they remembered.
