I posted about a week ago that a friend got a flyer saying it was gonna be an 'old time' deal again..
Then another friend told me he called them and they said "no, it was open to whatever wanted to run, not just old stuff"..

So i did some more digging today and found out the real skinny..

Seems the guy that wanted to have the nostalgia deal is on his own this year. He is in the process of building another track (thats not close to being done yet) in the same area.
He's the one that sent out the flyer saying "South butler Nostalgia Weekender".. But it's NOT at the old track, it's at the new location and there is no racing..just a show, swap and a band..
I guess he's trying to get people to come to his thing so they know about it for next year..

The confusion lies in the date's..
Both his gig, and the actuall drags (at the old track where it was last year) will be on the same date..
It reminds me of when we were kids and you tried to do something at the same time as another kid because you didn't like him..in hopes of 'stealing' some of his attention..

Anyway, i just wanted to let those know before they go out of their way to make a trip expecting a 'nostalgia weekender' and finding camaro's and mustang's instead of "A's" and sleds..

I havn't talked to the guy's in our club yet, but with the truth coming out, i highly doubt we're gonna stay overnight..
Probably just show up saturday afternoon for a while..if we go at all.

    Sorry for the short story...

    Tony........

Tony, where is this 'new track' I keep hearing about?? Maybe we'll check it out before or after Warwick's gig.
In any event, Bernie & me will be cruising down to S.Butler on Saturday - hope to see you there.

I was told the new track would be at the next farm up towards 104.
    So who is going Sunday?
I thought we could take the place over from the 5.0's and 4x4 trucks.
But if ya'll ain't going I'll skip it.

I forget where I heard it, but I think the new track is supposed to be just up the road from the original one...I saw some early press on these two events and it made it almost seem like the same people were doing both...I was thinking about going, but I think I'll put it off till next year when there might be some real racing, not just mullet ******* contests.

    Later guys,
    Jay

    P.S.
Tony, I may be in touch with you about a Rochester Carb or two...

Yeah, dirty and i were talking earlier about going or not..
He had a chance to work overtime and it woulda been dumb to miss that to watch 'normal' cars run..
    So he's working..

It's supposed to rain on saturday and i have to work in the am 'til 12:30, so i may just p*** this year as well.
I'm kinda bummed because i was hoping for a re-run of last year..
    Well, that aint gonna happen..

    Jay,
Lemme know man..Did you get what i sent you yet??

Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, Tony. Things have been a little crazy. Thanks very much, I apreciate it. I was telling my girlfriend about the HAMB while I was cleaning out the garage the other day and she couldn't believe that we all just send parts to each other. She thought it was pretty cool (that's a good sign, huh?)

    I'll be in touch...

    injundave,
It's about 1n hour or so east of Rochester out Rt 104.

I also recieved a nice e-mail form one of the promoters of the gathering at the new, in progress track with the real 'low down'..

I'm attatching it so you guy's can read whats going on at the new site.
This deffinately sounds like it's going to be the place to be next year for some old style racing if they get the track set up..

    anyway, here's what i got....
They are trying to get as many traditional styled cars there they can. She asked me to spread the word for them if i would..so....

Read your message on Jalopy Journal.com. Here's the real story from the
source--promoters Joe and Donna Reese. My husband and I put on the
Nostalgia Weekender last year at an old drag strip in South Butler. Our
idea was to have older (pre-1963) CARS AND RAT RODS. We had a very
successful show, but our ideas of what we wanted for a show didn't mesh with
    the track owner's.

So we teamed up with a family who owns over 100 acres in South Butler, about
1/4 mile down the road from last year's site, on Slyburg Road. We had this
date planned for almost a year now. We had been pursuing efforts to put in
an 1/8 mile 50's style drag strip. However, my husband was hospitalized for
close to 6 months, and no fundraising was able to get done. We do have a
lawn mower racing track in, and had planned to do a lawnmower racing weekend
on Aug. 7-8. So many of our friends asked us to also do the car show that
we originally had planned to do, so we are doing that as well. There will
be a swap meet, live bands on fri. and Saturday nights (Rock-a-billy band
Krypton 88 from Rochester on Saturday and another rock-a-billy swing band
aslo on Saturday), a flame show Sat. night (King of Flames, Gary ****on,
shoots about 100 feet), camping (no hook ups), lawn mowerheat races Saturday
and lawn mower racing Sunday. We have lots planned, and out hope is to have
as many rat rods as possible. My husband and I attended the Road Agents
Show in Connecticut in July and p***ed out many flyers. We own a 1937
Pontiac rat rod ourselves, and are heavy into the rock-a-billy scene.

We originated the idea of the Nostalgia Weekender, and whoever is poromoting
the other show down the road decided to book their show against ours. Sorry
for any confusion. Rates are very reasonable for our show. $5.00 includes
show car and one person. Spectators are $5.00 for a weekend p***. Camping
is $5.00 extra. There will be a food vendor and a chicken BBQ also.

PLEASE encourage any club members to attend. We need all the support we can
get. Weather looks good--a bit cold for this time of year, but tolerable.

Hope you can p*** this on and post a message on your board. We'll treat you
right if you come down. Directions can be found on Map Quest. You want
Slyburg Road, which will be either a right or left hand turn from last
year's site, depending on whichever way you come in.

    Again, sorry for any confusion.

    Donna Reese
    Co-promoter, South Butler Motorsports Park
