Has anyone used the scotch-brits bristle discs from eastwood? They come in 50, 80, 120 grade. They claim there great for removing paint. I wonder if they would be good to remove paint where you need to weld on the body. What grade would you use? Also if you use a 4 1/2" grinder on a fender what kind of wheel would be best without tearing the metal up to bad? Thanks.

We have them at work. I am not impressed with them. Their purple stripping disc is a whole 'nother story. They are fantastic!
Use a flap wheel for grinding on sheet metal, does a very nice job.

I use them all the time on aluminum. They work great for gasket removal. I would use a standard roloc 36 or 80 grit for paint removal on steel.

Are the purple stripping discs from eastwood? Where do you get the roloc 36/ 80, is it a flap disc? Thanks for the info.

Eastwood is the last place Id buy anything like that from. Get 3M products from your local paint supply, the price will be much better, and no shipping. Eastood is way overpriced.

  9. Yeah, I agree. 3M stuff is the best.

One place where I found those bristle disks work well is in stripping bubbled up flaky chrome off of something fragile like a grill shell. For paint though, I like the stripper disks that look like wadded up balls of hair with abrasive glued to it. The open construction of them allows them to stay cool and cut cool so the paint doesn't just melt and smear around.

I get my 3M scotch brite type pads at an abrasives outlet
here in Tucson. Look under abrasives in the phone book.
I use mine on a 7inch grinder. Does a good job. For what
it's worth, I bought a couple of road signs from a salvage yard.
Ever try to remove that 3m covering. I used a co**** 3M
to remove everything in about 10-15 minutes. Went to
a medium and finally a fine grit. Looked like new.

  12. Like the others said: paint supply or abrasives supplier...Eastwood has a cool catalog and some useful stuff but why pay the shipping if ya don't have to
