Does anyone have contact info. for Cub Barnett Racing Engines? They built the Blown Mopar flathead straight 8 that was run at B'ville in 2005 or 2006 and shown in the photo below. Anyone have any details on this DeSoto airflow? Thanks, N B R
He lives here in Sonoma California. Just call 411 - Sonoma CA, Cub Barnett Racing Engines. (Lost his business card!) He's a GREAT engine builder and a super nice person...
Let us not forget Dave Dozier who originaly built the Chrysler. I met Dave at Fremont Drags in '64 or so when he was running the Chrysler in a Bantam altered. He was a good friend.
Rich, Thank you for your kind word about Dave Dozier. He`s the reason that Airflow made it into the rocord book. A good man/great racer. Thanks Mike
Mike , Iam going to start a phantom woody project next year as I acquire the needed pieces . The engine is a 1941 straight 8 chrysler which I intend to twin turbo as well as electronically fuel inject. I saw a show on t.v.that I think showed the Desoto's engine in a streamliner , and this what gave me my twist on your idea. That Desoto is too cool and I love that cl*** of salt racing , one really has to work for every bit of horsepower. Could you please give me engine internal specs as I would like to repeat them in the motor I plan to build, pistons and ring type , stock or aftermarket rods , cam grinder, valvetrain components , and any special machining needs.I would really appreciate the help. Thanks Rob.
Around 1995, Ed Hegarty gave me a great T-shirt depicting the Dozier & Hegarty Airflow (Mike, I guess Ed is your dad?). The legend below the picture reads "The Trailing Edge of Technology". Love it.
Desoto only had straight eight engines in 1930 and 31 but Chrysler had them a lot longer. The airflow Desoto coupe is a great car but very rare. You never mention what body you are going to use for you Phantom woody?
Hello Roadkill, the body of choice is a 1929 dodge that I have complete in pieces. The reason for this is my Dad drove a few Victory 6 coupes back in the day, kind of a tribute to him as he p***ed away three years ago. Plus the engine choice would have been something he probably would have done but a little more basic. Take Care Rob
50 fraud , sure would like to see a picture of that t-shirt it sounds really interesting . Thanks Rob
Here's the artwork from the back. Sorry it's not a great picture, but the shirt has been lying crumpled up in a drawer for about five years. The date on the artwork, BTW, is 1990.
50 Fraud, That t-shirt is a neat keepsake thanks for the look . Going to Bonneville is on my things to do list hopefully in 2010, I want to hear those flatties roar .Take Care Rob.
Does anyone have the contact info for Cub Barnett I am interested in talking to him about the Airflows motor specs. Thanks , Rob.
Have not thought of the name Cub Barnett in a very long time. I believe he built engines for the "Scotty's Muffler" Bonneville record setting tank and I think "Scotty's" Ardun T-Bucket drag car. A real legend around here.
If this is the same Cub Barnett, he lived next store to my family way back in the early 70's. I can remember him building engines back than. I was good friends with his younger son. He used to race at freemont raceway. My Mom held a record there for the longest time. My parents have a pic of one of his old ford coupe's, I remember riding in the rumble seat!! If anyone has a web site for him or any of his son's please put it on this post. Thank you
Don't think thew Cub I know is in Michigan. More of a North Cal boy. An old phone number I have is 650-593-8124. Don't know if that is still good.
Hey Frankie47, sorry but your 3 seconds was a waste of time. Not the right barnett. Cub Barrett was in Belmont Ca. south of SF. Always check your facts before you try to insult someone! like I would never check googe first. It took me all but ten seconds to write this.
Very nice to know that someone knows Cub. I've been talking about him for years. I was a little kid when he lived next store from me. I can remeber so many cars he would work on! I live in Belmont from 61 to 74. I would just hang out and check out the cars
When people ask, “why didn’t you put an LS in your car” I show them this pic and tell them “anyone can buy an LS, few get the chance to have a legend build you a motor!”
