A fellow near me has a set of 18" wide fives for sale. SOLIDS
I really didn't know they even existed??
What cars were they found on . Trucks?? I bet.
I bet they would look good on an open wheeled car with a set of caps.
    any pictures?

There were 18" Wide Five Wheels that were an after market item that Kelsey Hayes made I believe. I have never heard of solid wide fives though. I would definitely be interested in seeing them.

Actually, does anybody have the new Hot Rod Delux? There is a Competition car called Shaker or something that has a weird wide five wheel.

they might be tractor wheels.. what is the width? is FORD stamped anywhere on the wheel?

  6. Probably marketed to people needing additional ground clearance, like doctors or mail carriers.

    But Yes, we need pics!

    There were factory high-clearance wheels.
The wide 5 was also used til '47 on various 3/4-1 ton trucks in a variety of sizes different from the common '37-9's. I haven't come up with a complete list of those yet.

What I mean to say is...if you can afford them, they are probably worth a good deal more than that!
18" were an over the counter Ford part for people living in areas with bad roads/deep mud/ruts.
18" Ford wheels were popular for lakes/Bonneville cars both for extra diameter (higher gearing) and because they couls take Indy tires, which met the rules in some classes requiring race tires.

I've often wondered if those could be balanced for passenger car use.
