Alright, I think that for less than the price of reworking the original bench seat, I can get a couple later model buckets off of ebay. But I don't know if there are clearance issues, or what not. What "comfortable" seats will fit easily in a 50 chevy truck?
    Thanks!

You would be better off checking your local craigslist or a wrecking yard that way you can take measurements firsthand, the freight charges to ship seats off ebay would cost big$$$ .I would look at 1980-90 Mustang,Cougar or T-Bird seats the floor brackets and tracks are almost flat and one of the easiest to adapt and mount.

Here are a couple of sites that discuss some options.

I picked up the whole front bench from a 1996 Park Avenue. I paid $ 40.00 off of Craigslist. I even got all the seat belts stuff thrown in. The owner removed them from the care and saved all the mounting hardware too.

There are just in place to verify the fit. Mounting will come much later.

They fit great in my 54 GMC. Not mounted yet, but super nice fit.

Keep looking, the deals are there for the patient ones.

If the truck isn't chopped you won't find a seat that is more comfortable than a well done stock seat. That is the voice of 35 years of experience with probably ten different seats in the 48.
As the other guys said shipping will kill you on seats that you would buy on ebay. Leave that for the guys who have to have and exact seat for their rigs.
The seat that I have found fits the best and looks the best in one of these is out of a 75/76 Toronado but those cars are pretty collectable now.
I've been eyballing the captains chair style buckets that I put in my Dodge Mini Ram they cam out of a mid 90's mini van, sit pretty comfortable and have a simple base that mounts with four bolts. They also have the seat belts attached to the seat but you would have to take the shoulder belt out of the donor rig. The problem is that they have ugly high backs.

I built a new bench seat using the original seat frame. I made contoured steel seat back and bottom and covered them with foam. They feel great and gave me SO much more room in the truck. I still need to go back and do nice seat covers.

The seat build is burried in here:

We are using a bench seat out of a 92 Dodge Dakota from the salvage yard ($10.00). We do not have it mounted yet, but my son is going to cover with a Mexican blanket to help keep the costs down on his first truck. He is building a 1948 3 window.

I used a 60/40 power split bench out of a '79 Chrysler LeBaron in my chopped '48 pickup. Perfect fit and incredibly comfortable.

I've used Dodge dakota seats in a couple of trucks. Great seat! I did have the interior guy add 2" to the top of mine for looks.
