I dig the '53 Chevy wheel, I have an extra one (blue) left over from my old '53 (put in a MINT black one) that I could use on my A...damn, should have kept the black one when I sold my Chevy...

    Oh well.

well faith, i couldn't get you any music (i'll explain later) but here's a shot of my copper lines on my A. Little different than your carbs, but principle is the same. i'm running a plastic filter, but it's along the frame rail out of sight. definitely ditch the alternator. it's probably too late, but i fogrot to mention that my girlfriend and i not only collect old car **** but old clothes from 30s through the 50s so if you needed some input on costuming i could have helped. Again, you're probably almost done filming though.

Anyhow, with the copper line, i buffed mine on the wheel and then sprayed clear varnish over it so it wouldn't tarnish. just don't spill gas on it. it might eat the varnish off.

    Wicked!

But before you swap all the stuff into the new center carb, make sure to check the shafts and the straightness of the mating surface where the air horn meets the bowl. Nobody wants leaks! :D

That style 3x2 is one of my faves. Folks on the 318 Poly board ask about Strombergs, and I have to agree with Gary on there - get 3-bolt to 4-bolt carb adapters and get 2Gs and be done! As you wel know, when they run good, they run GOOOOD!

But the alternative kinda ****s. ;)

    And... gold paint?

    Like the Eastwood stuff?

yeah, I rally dig it too. It is unique, I have not yet seen another roadster with one in it... In "the devil on wheels" (an old hotrod flicks from eth fifties) the main deuce looks so similar to mine and also sports an oversized steering wheel in it, not sure what it was as they never gave us a clear shot of it...

yeah yeah, the rochesters were gold ... I think that is the color they come in from factory?

It took a lot of work to strip that paint off, but since I had the carbs off the manifold, and was about to rebuild them, I figured that was the perfect timing.

****erfly shaft leak, yes I am oh so very familiar with this. I had one on carb 3. the previous owners coud not figure out why tri=power wasn't working.. It could nto idle. Once you gave it gas it was OK, but would stall at idle (pretty much immediately) so they gave up the tri - power and plated the 2 outside carb, leaving only center carb running.

Well turns out only center carb has idle circuit. So as soon as the carb 3 was hooked up the vac*** caused by its misaligned ****erfly would kill the gas/air mixture. Center carb did not produce enough gas to compensate for leak. teh jet size was too small too, which did not help the problem.

So what we did is a)- put a bigger jet and b)- fix the leak and THEN it was like MAGIC.

That tri-power runs GREAT. Ironic it took a girl owner to bring the ol' tripower back in action, but the credit goes to my amazing tune up / carb man who I cannot recommend enough. Great lad, reasonnably priced and he NAILED it.

He was highly recommended by Troy of Hollywood hotrods and now I know why. ;)

Yep, that is why they called it the Deuce of Spades... but also referring to the poker card trick when you pull a Deuce of Spades on someone, using the smallest card in the deck (the deuce) to build a winning hand and kill your oppponent that way... Which is what Johnny did cause his deuce looked so "uncon****ious" on the ouside, he never showed off the goods, ya know? It didn't LOOK fast or threatening. Nobody knew what he was running under the hood... Solid side panels... And for a while there, people fell for it, and he dusted them one after the other LOL. he pulled off the deuce of spades trick until his reputation started preceding him everywhere he went, but the name stuck.

Yeah, tracking down leaky carbs is no fun. They're often sneaky, and real headbangers to solve... and have caused more than one person to give up on them entirely!

    Kudos on your tenacity!

    I don't think I'd expect anything less... I mean, it's YOU! LOL!

Ah yeah cool, I dropped the guy an email just now... Will these be as reliable as my modern / ugly hose clamps? that is a concern...

    Anyone?

Yes, the medalion was my idea and creation. I REALLY had to twist the arm of my local plexigl*** guy cause they didn't think their machines could make a half dome plexi piece and make it look smooth. they didn't want to deal with teh h***le. But once I drove my deuce there and showed them what it was for, they were willing to help.

    And behold, it worked!!

I then created the spade artwork and placed the medalion inside the steering wheel horn ****on empty spot. Fit poy-fect :)).

OK you guys! CHECK THIS OUT! I have my buddy Jerry look into the finned valve covers and thsi is what he just sent me:

"You got me looking in my old Hot Rod magazines! Here is a photo from the July 1955 issue of HOT ROD. Note the valve covers. Yep, finned Edelbrock covers on a new '55 Chevy V8. Happy? Cool huh!! Says in the article that tri power with cam and milled heads adds "83 easy horsepower".

This looks so similar to my engine set up it put a big *** smile on my face. So Johnny being ahead of the game back then could have had this under his hood, in 55. 100% period correct.

This goes to show we all have some stereotyped conceptions of what was out there back then. Bet you most of us didn't know Edelbroks valve covers identical to mine (except for bolt pattern) were already out in 55 ;)

    Neat.

Ah... You guys are sooo easily entertained ... How about you go dig out in your old hotrod magazine for photos of hard fuel line set-ups and help me out instead?

There was a lot of copper fuel line usage in that era.

Yes those VCs were in this 1955 Edelbrock catalog of course they would be the staggered bolt pattern. The intake was available with the 4 bolt Rochester bolt pattern.

The ram horn exhaust manifolds of that time would have provisions for the generator mount as above which will have to be fabbed for a generator using your later ram horns.

The see thru red vynil fuel line was not available in 55 so red or black fuel hose would be correct. There were some hard line fuel lines but for the most part, flexible hose was used for fuel line around the engine on multi-carbed systems.

Thanks for the cool photos Tommy... It's great to see what was out there back then... I am going to mount the generator on a braket, same spot the alternator is rigth now. It'd be cool to find a pair of older ramhorn to put on the deuce, one moer thing to add to my list of "things to do"... But no money right now.... So it will have to wait.

Currently my fuse box has ****ped out on me and I have some serious electrical issues. I need to get a new fuse box and rewire my rod. Thwe wiring was not done rigth from eth get go and I have lots of electrical problems, some more serious than others... I have decided to take time off and redo everything. Currently the deuce is partially down. fuel pump wiring has gone bad and so has starter wiring. we are only getting 5 Volt at the silinoid when I energize it.... It's not wanting to crank unless I short it with a screwdriver etc etc...

So I know what I am doing on Thanks Giving 4 day week-end hehehehe...

Problem is I don't know what I am doing cause I have never wired a car. Yes, I know how to cut, splice, solder, shrink and make a nice looking wire / connection. but I would not know where to begin when I will get my wiring kit in the mail. Can't wait to do it though and learn. But sure could use help.

If you are a local rodder with extensive electrical experience and willing to come and show me the ropes and supervise my handy work, please let me know. I don't want to have a shop do it and can't afford to take the rod to a shop anyway right now. film has eaten up all my finances.

Anyone willing to volunteer help get the Deuce back on the road so we can continue filming?

See the wall switch under the dash to the left? That's on/off ignition. Works for me. Good luck!!!

Does anyone has photo of fuel logs that would be mid fifties period friendly? That's the last piece of my puzzle now.

    Please post photos or links?
