It is a 1966 Fiat 850 sedan. It's actually in pretty good nick, bit of rust in the front sills and thats it. The engine runs well and was supposedly rebuilt(same ol story).

I was thinking about doin something like this to it, I know it's not a Henry-J, but it has the same basic lines, only smaller, already found a straight axle the correct width:)

That is pretty bad if they are even rusting up in AZ.

With what looks like about a 60" wheelbase, might be hard to keep in a straight line down the track, but would definitely keep it interesting.

Pop the motor where the dash is and steer from the back seat? That could be cool. maybe some wheelie bars too to keep from flipping.

  10. that would make a sweet g***er mate, what are your plans for the mechanicals?
    where in australia are you?

I had a Fiat 850 not so long ago, but mine was a Series II Sport Coupe ("big block" 903cc engine!)

Had the engine out at one stage to fix the head gasket and measured up the engine bay - I worked out that I could just squeeze a Leyland P76 V8 in the back. Obviously, this would have grenaded the stock transmission, but there is an established procedure for successfully transplanting a VW gearbox into these, using driveshafts made up of a combination of Fiat and VW parts plus a bit of machining. If I had that I'd fit the straight axle, fit a VW box and then go hunting for the right motor (adapters can be bought to fit VW boxes to almost anything) and build a g***er wheelstander. Stock, about 65% of the weight of these things is on the back wheels, so it wouldn't take much in the way of a bigger motor to get the front wheels up and keep them there!

Cool little beastie! I say put it on a rail frame with the front wheels out in front of the grille and the zoomies coming out of the front wheel wells.

What even is that thing? A pop-up camper? It keeps staring back at me and I can't look away.

The rail idea sounds good. I was thinking back seat driver too, but I think the tires will take up that space, unless you're keeping the 12-inch wheels.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

Ok, here are some really bad, really quick sketches of some ideas, including the cool idea of Zoomies out the fender wells and wheels infront .
The other ideas include the g***er, and a mini chopped led-sled.
What do you think and any other ideas?

The thing to do with these is to put in a Fiat twin cam. These can make plenty of hp - and mad amounts when turbo´ed or superchanged, as they were from the factory for some applications. Search for Fiat 850 OTR or OT.
I´m sure theres an Aussie guy I´ve read about racing the coupe version. M***ive wheelies are the order of the day.

Ok, I think I have a winner, I like this drawing, except for my poor excuse of an engine drawing.
