I found this in a field... I've tried getting ahold of someone at the property but no answer at the door. Car is rough but 95% complete. Looking at this for a low buck traditional late 50's style beater rod... What kind of offer should I give for this ***uming I can get ahold of someone? Front... My Daughter behind it... 1958 Inspection...
go for it..you never know what you could get it for..I would find the owner and ask if they would sell it to you..see where that goes..i wouldnt even talk price right off,
I have yet to see an A in that shape for 500-1000 dollars in our area advertised. It seems like everyone in Austin thinks their rotted running boards and original fenders they took off some river bed car is worth that much on craigslist. Maybe 500-1000 from a friend. That car just looks sun burned, but it sure looks complete and "unscrewed" with. A fresh start is worth atleast a grand in my books. But if you can get it for less more power to ya. Good luck getting that car, it looks like a great start.
It's way better than the 30-31 we sold for $2500 a couple years ago. Then again, you find me 10 of them in that shape for $500 I'll buy every one of them just to re-sell as-is. Not everyone thinks it's still 1975.
We don't get sunburned cars in the NorthEast, that is real rust. I'd start with a $1,000. offer, but really check the thing for rotted out sections.
Oh yeah, it is DEFINITELY rusty. Look at the rear of the body behind the spare. Look at the front fenders/spash aprons and what's left of the boards. P*** 1/4 panel is rotted too below driprail. Not sure about the subfloor. engine is froze. Oh, yes, they are 16's In pure hot rod tradition, I am cheap... I will see what HE says first. If I don't like it, I will walk away. If I do, I will see if he'lle take less.I have to agree though, $1000 tops on it.
IF you get it, make sure you look around in that mess and see if you can find the drip rail moldings. It looks like one may be on the ground in the picture behind your daughter. Those things are getting really hard to find, and the aluminum ones the resto places sell are just not quite right. Around here at a swap meet that car would have at least a grand on it if not more. Usually body alone in that shape with no ch***is, running gear, fender, or anything else, just a shell of a body usually rusted prettty good sells for a grand around here. I guess it depends on how bad you want one and how long you are willing to look for that super deal on the pristine body.
I paid 500.00 for this one 2 years ago Took me 15 years to get them to sell it to me I see they had the old blue let me rust this car out faster tarp on it. Start out at 500.00
You really can't compare a car like this to cars for sale on Ebay or swapmeets..... 99.9% of the time, cars like above, just out sitting, can be had much cheaper than what enthusiasts sell at swaps..... I'd offer @ $500......
I've been looking for over 3 years for one of those $500 barn finds or field ornaments around here. I'd have figured with all the 100+ year old farms and farm houses I'd have found at least one by now, no luck. I'm envious, that yellow coup and even that sedan would be considered "well preserved" up here. I guess the snow has turned it all to dust
If its last inspection was in '58 I'm going to say there have been many rodders from the last few generations that have tried to buy it before with no luck...
I'd be prepared to be turned down at $500, chances are it's been there that long for a reason. Plus like I said before it's 2008, not 1978, it amazes me the world some people live in. Normally you let the owner set a price, anyways, if you really want to buy - it's one thing if they only want $500 for it - but I can't touch a Model A with any kind of body on it for that kind of money around here.
Whatever you offer, HAVE THE CASH WITH YOU when you do it, or you might as well be offering a buck and a half. The old farmer I got my '40 from kept telling me "no" for about four years until one day I walked over with cash ($900), and suddenly "no" became "yes". As they saying goes, cash talks. Best of luck!
