A while back I stumbled across one of these boards in a smallish department store (Gowings for you other Sydneysiders). It was a deal too good to be true. I didn't buy it and as per usual, the deal changed. 18 months later I'm wasting some time at a surf shop and this guy brings in his board as a trade in. I just happen to be standing there as he pulls it out of the bag. He must've seen me drooling and said Hi. I asked him what the story was and told him about the "one that got away". Turns out he only wants $900 for it, whereas I've seen them for around $1300. Of course, I um and ah because I don't have the money and I'd just quit my job, but I wasn't going to let this one get away. So the nice people at the surf shop (Bennett Surfboards, Harbord Rd) let me put it on layby. So I don't have it in my greasy hands yet and no, I haven't surfed it, but boy is she purdy... She's a Perfecto! Red fin to help hide the blood from my victims!
ho lee crap, thats kickass! I'm still trolling the classifieds here to try and find a beater longboard...
Is "layby" the same as our 'merican "Lay-away"? which means the store will hold it until you finish paying for it in installments. Nice board
Wow, That Rambler is gonna need some work to turn it into a Woody. I left a timber( yeah, timber)Longboard up in Queensland when I moved back to Sydney.Still kicking myself. The thing needed wheels to move it.
I need an old one for my 56 wagon, been looking everywere but no one wants to ship it. I just want a junk one that looks ok. But the one you got shure looks good !!!!
LOL!!! Now that's stylin' old beet. Not too sure about that rack setup though???!!! Skippy... you clown!!! Mega dollars for those old things.

[/ QUOTE ] Looks like it'll be one hell of a good ride, congratulations!…I bought a board off ebay last year and had it shipped Grey Hound bus.
I've got an early 60's Gordon and Smith longboard I still use. It weighs a ton but kicks ass and still looks cool (paiseley nose art). I need to figure a way to hang some racks on the Hup. That looks like a nice stick. Surf to live! Live to surf!
I have a 9' Stewart, longboards rule. You quit your job? Damn, the Wiggles will never be the same without you...
A friend gave me this one. Found it in the basement of a bar. Free for the taking. It's a big sum bitch, 10'2". The only place I had to hang it was down the hallway. It still has the wax on it from the last time we used it. Clark

Cool, I sold my modern Mal last year for much needed $$ but still have a way old long board up in the garage rafters, unfortunatly some fool (me) did some classing on the nose way back in his teens, still have the dream of taking it back to the guy who built it (bob Davies in Whangamata home of the beach hop) to get it warmed over, still the most fun board I ever owned..... well kinda owned, I guess it was bought by one of my brothers back in the 70's
Finally picked up the board today. Thought I'd better cruise past the beach on the way home and check it out. Pretty much dead flat. Regardless, I needed to take the board home as that's where the fin was and I needed to wax up anyway. Got her home, slapped in the 10" tanslucent Fluid Foils fin and flipped her over. Found an new bar of Mrs Palmer and her Five Daughters wax and got to work... Wax on... Wax off... sorry... more wax on... Found my brand new 10' leg rope that I got for Christmas last year and tied that on. Sat there and looked at it for a while and just couldn't stand it, so I got my shit together and headed out. Now you've got to remember, it's the DEPTHS OF WINTER at the moment here in Oz. Got on the wetty and headed out, little bit cool, but not too bad. Got on a few lefts and considering I hadn't been out since summer when I gashed my foot, I was doing alright. Just me and one other bloke out. Caught about six waves and headed in. I'm happy. Here's a pic from earlier today.
...........off topic...........non-Tech..........but sorry...........my favorite post I've read today. Cowabunga Dude! Wishing you and that G&S many happy waves together. Don't forget to check out the DVD, "Step Into Liquid"
You just ruined my day. Stupid No-ocean-Illinois... Yes, I still miss the ocean. We're taking a trip in Dec and I tried like hell to make it a surfing friendly destination, but I got outvoted and we're going to Cancun. Maybe in the Spring I can make it back out to SoCal.
I dont know how you guys live where theres now ocean. I have a 3 block walk and I can let some steam off after work
Clark, I need that board for my wagon... I have been looking for an old single tail longboard from the early days to strap to my roof.... someday I will get lucky... Lets see more boards.... Like Skatefinks said, my favorite post today...
[ QUOTE ] Damn Brootal, You must have a good wettie bet it was bloody cold at dawn.... [/ QUOTE ] Don't be stupid! I waited until it warmed up a bit before I went out there. Went out again this morning around 8am. I think I'm just getting the feeling back in my toes. Sad thing is, it's really not that cold. Water temp around 17-18C. Moved the fin forward as far as it would go (about 3/4"). Seems to have made a big difference when it comes to turning. Didn't think it would, although it could just be that I'm figuring out the board a bit better. Another shitful winter's day in Sydney. Sorry about the O/T Ryan.
