Thank goodness I wasn't driving the 56 Chevy. I however was driving the 83 Caddy I've been trying to sell... so much for that idea....
It does suck--sorry to hear it. I saw two crossing the road on the way home last night. Is it at least in your freezer now? For everyone reading this, since we are coming into Silly Season...If you suddenly see one of them in your headlights (or any other animal, actually), don't swerve to avoid them! Thousands of people are hurt and killed each year when they swerve to avoid an animal and end up hitting a tree, gaurd rail, bridge or whatever other immovable object is handy. In rare instances, jambing on the brakes can make the car nose-dive, rolling the deer up over the hood and into the windshield. Every three or four years you read about someone rolling a dear into the passenger compartment through the windshield and then getting the shit kicked out of them by a steel hoof attached to a thigh capable of 8 foot vertical leaps. Seriously--if the fucker doesn't get out of your way, hit it, field dress it and enjoy with a nice Cianti throughout the rest of the year. In the mid-'90s when I actually researched this, over 250,000 deer were reported hit in the US--and that's only the ones that died at the road and the cop could look down and say "Yup. It's a deer." At least that many more were hit and crawled into the woods to die and weren't found, but the car was smashed. And that was 10 years ago. Numbers are higher now. Keep your eyes open. -Brad
Wow, hitting a deer...that never crossed my mind. Illegal aliens, homeless folks, and maybe a rabid coyote, but never a deer!
Last friday night my bro-in-law hit one in his Neon. Lucky for him it was just the corner of the car.
be glad you don't have elephants in the forests i hit a bird once had to run over it to easy its suffering from the broken wings, wasn't fun at all, real young one aswell probally just left the nest as it didnt fly very good (before i hit it,.. )
quite a few years back my boyfriend (at the time) and I were heading back from Pt. Reyes at night, on a motorcycle... we almost hit a deer. Or maybe we almost got hit by a deer. It was close enough that if we had been in a car we probably would have hit it. Deer can do a lot of damage. One ran in front of a friend of mine's minivan and it took out one of the big doors.
I haven't hit one yet, but where I live they are more or less pests and hazards. I go to work at 4am and I usually can count about a dozen every morning. It's not if I'll hit one, it's when. . Farmall
I nailed one on my way home from work 2 years ago...it leaped out of the bushes right in front of my aerostar van.. POP! Killed it graveyard dead. I limped the leaking van home and didn't have the heart to fix the old rustbucket...sold it to a buddy who replaced all the rusty panels and still drives it. fuckin deer. .................and the carnage took place in a residential area of Omaha, Nebraska! They're everywhere.
Back when I was detailing cars, we had one come into the shop which was an insurance job. The people hit a deer, it came up the car (it was a Ford Taurus one of the first w/the all the "oval" shit) anyway it went through the passenger side, destroyed the windshield, the deer went INTO the guy's wife's face and mangled her really bad. The car was FULL of blood, I mean FULL.. hers and the deer. It got towed in on a VERY hot summer day which was worse.. so digusting. The ash tray was full of some coagulated blood/goo.. It had leather seats so we just pulled them out and power washed them, carpet was replaced, probably should have been totalled but whatever.. I guess she was OK but her face was really messed up. That's not as bad as the car we had come in, the back window was shot out.. from the inside... some guy blew his brains out in his new Chrysler... you haven't lived until you've cleaned chunks of brain from a center console.
last night we hit a bear, he got hurled thru the air tumbled thru the gravel and picked himself up and ran up a bank, I figure he died shortly after with internal damage, a 200 ton locomotive will do that smashed into a deer 5 minutes later, just a thud and it was jugs up
here's one i got in dec' "03". totalled my poor little work truck. i tried to get some deer steaks out of it but it was hit too hard. i got the rack though!!
Careful too 'cuz they often travel in pairs. If you miss the first one there could be a second close behind.
Had a really nice S-10 blazer that I used to take to lots of trucks shows. Shortly after moving to SC, we had to evacuate for a Hurricane. So I left the daily driver and took the blazer loaded with personal items that we did not want to lose. Got lucky and the Hurricane went further north in NC and spares Charlestons. One the way home I was driving down one our Backroads at bout 60 and out jump three deer. I slammed the brakes and everything came forward so I let off and hoped for the best. Well I hit it. Wiped the hood, , bumper and grill out plus it damaged the radiator and rad support (both which were polished and painted respectively. It was an expensive one but it did not go thru the windshield (I was lucky as I hit the smallest of the three). Killed the deer I think, I local stopped behind me and thru it in the back of his pick up.. I feel for you, just be glad it did not go thru the windshield like a lot do...
Almost 2 years ago now... I was in North Carolina to visit family (conveniently close to Goodguys Charlotte ) 8-pointer jumped out in front of me and smacked up the 52 pretty bad.
Ya gotta watch for the ones that hit *you* as well... A few years ago, my mom and step-dad were down visiting some family in Louisiana...while driving along a two-lane, a deer jumped out of the underbrush alongside the road and went head-on into the side of the Honda they were driving. Fortunately, it hit between the front wheel and the passenger's side door. I don't want to think what it might have done to my mom if it had hit square on the door...
I have hit them and I have been hit by them......2 years ago,one hit the passenger bedside on my Dakota 4X4.Last summer, one hit the drivers door on my DAKOTA 4X4! Just this past winter, while on my way home from a buddy's,I hit and killed one. The BITCH did over 1000 bucks in damage to the same truck. Fucked her up to bad to put her in the freezer though....This AM,on my way to cardiac rehab,I had ANOTHER one dance right in front of me! I missed her, but,I was driving the SAME TRUCK! I'm gonna name it DeerSlayer.............
