I have most of a 364 that I took out of my '57 Buick, and a 401 in my '63 Buick. Probably won't get any nifty speed parts until I start building a Nailhead-powered hot rod.
Been braggin' 'bout my nailhead speed parts earlier already... here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2585635#post2585635 Has any company ever fabricated 4x2 intake for nailhead? If, which? Got pics?
Been watchin' that page every now and then, and been working on similar U-fab style intake myself also. More about it later, much later. But how about cast intake 4x2, does any exist? I quess not..?
As far as I know no one ever cast a 4 in a row for the nailheads. I have only built a total 7 of the 4x2 intakes for the nailheads. I know 2 HAMB guys have them... I can't think of there name right now..
i believe weiand had their 2x4 intakes spaced a little wider so you could put 2 of their 2x2 to 4bbl addaptors on and have 4 in a row. jeff
I am a Nailhead newbie, bought a 401 earlier this year for my Model A. It is a 1965 401, with a single quad. I've been told to look to getting a dual quad setup. The problem is, which manufacturer or whatever should I look for? Stock from a GS? Crazy rare vintage aftermarket? I was told they are identified by some number or alphabet designation, I just don't remember. Someone help me out? Also, when perusing the swaps, what am I looking for/at? How do I know when I come across a Nailhead intake if they aren't marked. Even if they are, how do I know I am not being had.
For a 401/425 the end all be all is the Edelbrock B262 the stock dual quad is better than the Offy, the Offy is window dressing and that is all.
A nailhead intake is flat were it bolts to the heads no angle 264-322 8 1/4 across front bolt holes 364 8 3/4 across front bolt holes 401-425 9 across front bolt holes that's the easiest way to id nailhead intakes like Zman said the Offy intake is junk stock flows better
Here's my contribution. It's going on my 264 nailhead. I've got (new) finned Eelco valve and plug covers and a chrome oil filter and bracket.
Just added this to my collection a pretty rare W&H Du-Coil. I'm going to be using this one in my Model A. Also picked up a really nice pair of early 53-55 valve covers that will get chromed along with some plug wire covers. I cant believe how hard it is to find a good set of plug covers. But if you think about it the first time someone changed plug they would leave the covers off and just throw them out lets keep this going so post some pix of what you got
I ran a Du-Coil unit on my Merc flathead years ago. Interesting how the firing order is arranged. Took me awhile to figure it out but once set up ran real well.
I think I just soiled my pants! This thread kicks ***. Thanks everyone for sharing and keep the pics coming! Looking for a multi-carb set up if anyone wants to help a fellow HAMB'R out. Preferably a 3 or 6 carb set up. - Thanks!
My gotha 6x2 is up for sale. One of you guys should buy it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370175
Oh great! Now I won't be able to sleep tonight. I'll have visions of vintage nailhead speed parts dancing in my melon. I gotta start ac***ulating parts too. And I useta think a Cobra dressed 289 was the bees knees.
I just recently picked up this offy 6x2.... and I have a offy 2x4 on the nailhead in my car. I have an factory 4 barrel intake off an '53 322 laying around also, but I guess those aren't the best...
Finally my 7 year search is over for a tall Weiand Drag Star. The last 4-5 that were on egay I was sniped on This one was found for me by Russ Martin. What a great guy he is if anyone is looking for anything nailhead get ahold of him. He's the man when it comes to nailheads. Also a pix of my dads 322 with moon valley cover/valve covers and a 4-2 Edmund's intake also has a 37 lasalle trans behind it Should look sweet in his 34 roadster Anyone eles have any nailhead parts! Lets keep this going
