Has anyone ever used weld thru primer for header or manifold coating? Does it work? I used to use some primer when I worked in a body shop about 1996 that dried semi shiney silver and did not burn or discolor next to the weld.

I was thinking about this yesterday and its a zinc based primer right? figure it would be the same as galvanizing somthing? my spelling is horrible but I think it would work.

I work on a shipyard. Nearly everything we weld on has a coat of weldable primer and it doesn't have an effect (unless it is globbed on). Eastwood sells weldable primer with copper in it and also one with aluminum. I would shy away from galvanizing as the zinc causes your weld to "pop" and spit at your vigorously..oh yeah and it puts off toxic fumes. If you do weld over galvanized, drink some milk first...it will help.
