What casting numbers am I looking for on a flat tappet sbc camshaft. I want to cross those numbers with the cams I have to see if I do in fact have a factory flat tappet cam.
Its been a LOOOOOONG time but I think the part number ends in 097 but the casting number ON THE CAM ends in 098. Like I say its been a lot of years but I seem to remember something like this.....
Rodders also used to call them "pink code", "orange code", etc., referring to a paint smear between two lobes. Pink was the legendary "thirty-thirty".
The "thirty-thirty" Was the '60s 375hp 327 fuel injection cam. My old feeler gauge has .012, .018 and .030 banged up pretty good!
Gm had the hot hydraulic cam that was "151" on the last digits. I think it was for the 300 horse 350 and the 325 327. Don't quote me on those cause that's not the DUNTOV cam, not even close.
The hot hydralic ones was in the 350-327 and 350-350 HP. My fav hyd bump stick , ran it in a lot of engines ,got that profile in my 153 ChevyII banger.
What I have found while doing some research on a NOS GM cam that I had was the solid lifter Duntov cam ends with 097 and the hydraulic Duntov version ends in 098. There will also be a square next to the number if I remember correctly.
i think the 097 was a 265 and 098 was 283 both were solid lifter and .012 intake and .018 exhaust were the settings with the engine warm.long time ago but had several.
solid cams 3736098 = 57-63 Hi-lift (aka Duntov) PART# 3736097 3849347 = 64-65 L76 327/365hp & L84 327/375hp(FI) PART# 3849346 3972178 = 70-71 LT1 350 3927140 = DZ 302 or (off road) 3965754 = off road (over the counter service cam)
