Hey, I'm Fitz, 35, father of two, trucker, grad student, freelance writer, skateboarder, surfer, ninja, wizard, pirate, and as my old lady tells me, royal pain in the ***. I've been an armchair rodder ever since the 3rd grade, when I saw an Anglia with big-*** back tires ripping across the Thurso River Bridge in my hometown in Scotland. My love for cars was cemented in the fourth grade, when I met my oldest friend in the world, who grew up in a body shop, and to this day, lives, breathes, and sleeps for cars. Over the years, I've owned a variety of projects, none of which came anywhere near completion, but all of which were drivers, of some sort. I've had a '57 Willys Truck, '73 Travelall, '75 Cherokee, '64 Bug, '69 and '70 Busses, '84 Landcruiser, '70 Volvo... All fun enough, I guess, but not bought because they were what I wanted, but because they were good deals. Nope, what I wanted was a two-wheel drive truck, Ford, Chevy or Dodge, done in the mud-spattered hillbilly-hotrod style of the trucks I grew up around on the farms and in the foothills west of Portland. And if it was a weird variant like a panel, suburban, or crew cab, even better! Flash forward to Thursday, when I spotted a relatively straight '66 Carryall on cranklist. An hour or two later, and $900 poorer, I drove it home. Though I've surfed around here, dreaming of trucks, I never really had much reason to join. Seems like you guys like the same style I have in mind for my truck, so I figured I'd best sign up. Plus, I don't want to strain my oldest friendship too greatly... Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry for any dumb questions.
My father's from Glesga (Celtic Forever!) a Gorbals-born Scot, though our Surname (Fitzpatrick) is about as Irish as it gets. My mum's from Preston (shudder), though they both moved to Thurso (Caithness) as infants, in the early 'fifties. I'm from Dufftown, south of Elgin, where my folks lived briefly. My father was a Ghillie, so we lived all over the Highlands before settling in Thurso when I was three, and emigrated to Oregon when I was almost eight. Pretty much all Oregonian now, though I've been told there's traces left of my brogue, especially when I get angry, which mercifully doesn't happen much.
Welcome. Maybe we see you around. I drive trucks, 28 Ford Roadster pickup and a 31 Ford roadster pickup.
welcome from stumptown I just picked me up a 66 c10 the other day still trying to get it running right. Working on some other projects as well fellow celtic as well although born and raised here in portland.
I grew up in Turner, OR. Family had a '66 Carryall as the family truckster. Does yours have a tailgate or refrigerator style doors?
Look at all these soggy oregon folks! Are there any good swap meets or shows around here? Maybe a decent mopar club?
