It is official! My little P/U is a roller without any blocks of wood to hold things in place (speaking of chassis). I just finishes tacking in the rear 4 link and rolled her outside to get some perspective. I even got excited and started to play with the box. I will have to widen it a bit. Now we can get an idea of how it will end up looking.

I had also planned on shortening the box, but I am no so sure right now. The long bed offsets the cab sitting a bit back on the frame. I am open for suggestions, ideas, and photoshopping.

    Here's a few pictures.

This is just my opinion and we know what opinions are like

but my first thought when I seen the side shot was that the bed looked to long in the back for my taste(i like the bed more even front and back).
and the front upright or stake pocket looks a little odd to me that close to the front of the tire, looks like it should be closer to the cab.
I like the Hemi in there :D [IMG]
and nice job on the truck. Ron...[IMG]

o.k. here is a shorter bed...this is from a paint program and not a photo shop program, so any help here on making it look better is appreciated.

I actually like the longer bed. It seems like almost everyone has a really short bed...

    Kurt,
NICE... you are my next big hero! The truck-ster I'm planning won't be quite so low but it will have a full length bed - a little tail high and hanging out! How do you spell new desktop photo! Gary

I would like the bed a bit shorter, not too short though, with distance back of the tire the same as distance in front of the tire to the back of the cab, with the front stake pocket further forware.

I think it looks perfect as is.

  12. Very cool truck. I vote for a shorter bed as the long version is just so out of proportion compared to the rest of the truck. Whatever way you choose to go is your own personal taste so make it the way you like it.

I'm not sure how I would go about moving the front stake pocket forward. If done, it would have to be moved seperatly from the whole box. Moving the whole box forward would reveal the embosed wheel arch of the box (the part where the fender would have been). Moving the pocket would involve a whole lot of cutting and patching. I agree, it may improve the look.

Photoshop guru needed. Show me a shorter bed and a moved stake pocket please.

Thanks Gary, the praise is nice to hear. You know how it goes...a lot of planning, a bunch of mistakes & frustrations, then you get about ten minutes of something that finally comes together that you like.

i agree that if the front stake pocket was up close to the cab it would maybe look better . then see what the rear looks like . but a great job for sure !! .. steve

Form and function. Shorty / bobber beds give you the Fad-T look but no utility. A stock bed still looks ok by me if the rake and rear wheel placement is just right - AND you can get your 4ft long EZ up in it too! Since I plan to travel in mine, some functions just can't be cut for form alone. Gary

Hey Kurt, was your truck a truck from the factory? or did you cut down a sedan to make a PU?
I have not seen to many early 30's dodge PU around.
either way is a very cool truck  Ron....

She started out as a DD6 Four door. The bed is '34 Ford if I remember correctly.

Very nice work! I know you can second guess the shit out of anything, but It's cool as is.

  20. I like the longer bed. It seems to flow better.

Years ago I was a fan of shorter, T-bucket style beds, but now I feel that the longer beds, like yours, have much better aesthetic balance and the shorty beds just seem a little abrupt.

I like this little truck a lot! Nice rubber rake but plenty low, looks like a Tom Medley drawing. The proportions are killer but maybe even better if the bed was a few inches shorter....

I like it. I like the long bed it puts it more in proportion to the rest. But I am bias on the choice.:)

    Kurt,
The images of your build have got me so fired-up, I hope you don't mind that I took some liberties and made some white paste and scissors mods to your profile. I have photoshop, but don't know how to use it like this, so the cut n paste is pretty crappy.

My rod will sit a tad higher than yours but the parts and proportions I've had in my mind's eye are just about identical to what you have done. You have been reading my mind? Amazing...

Unlike most trucksters, I will be adding skirts (like dirt track late models) under the bed that will be held on by button heads. Because my rod will sit a tad higher, I hope the skirts will be able to hide the fuel tank and battery in front of the axle, and more than likely AirRide stuff behind the axle. The plan also includes a "weather resistant" hard metal cover on the bed so I can haul a bunch of crap on long trips and not have to sacrifice bed space for a gas tank. What think? Gary

no , dont move the stake pocket . cut the bed at the front of the pocket & move the head board back to the pocket . then move the whole thing forward . thus a shoter bed with the stake pocket where it should be . but above all , do it your way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .. kool trk . .. steve

Steve that would be a great way to do it "BUT" I believe there is a body roll behind the tire on the bed that would be to far forward and not centered by the tire if done that way. Ron....
