Why o why can't anyone do wiring right? I know theres been debates about pre- made harness VS making your own, but for the love of god.. if your going to make your own take the time to do it right.. i think i'm going to have to pull the whole mess out of my 31 and start from scratch...
When your frustration subsides.....; What don't work right? Fix that. Some of the rest might be okay.
Just trying to track down some ghosts and hook up some stuff that wasn't hooked up.. and loving the 7 inches of green wire here, and then 2 inches of orange wire there then an inch of white wire between 2 **** connectors gong back into the orange wire...get what i'm up against..
I had the same junk with a Galaxie I was doing for a friend. I ended up yanking everything and ordering a Rebel Wire kit. Great kit and saved a lot of time. Plus it supports a fellow HAMBer.
yeah, I get it. A friend recently traded his early nova for a 40 chevy, sight unseen, what a mess! wires everywhere...not only were most of them the same color, but the ones that were color coded all got spray-bombed black, just to make life easy for the poor ****er who has to try to fix it.
Yea i spoke to him last week, i'm making up a list of what i am going to run so i can figure out which harness to get.. I've heard alot of good things about his harness..
Yea whoever ends up with my '31 they will be cussing me. I have all the diagrams and also the relays that I installed all do***ented but if they get seperated from the car there will be some hair pulling I'm sure. Vergil
The guy's are right, sometimes it's easier and quicker to just pull it all out and start over if you aren't an electronic tech.
I went through the wiring on my dads boat today, the damn hillbilly that had it before us liked his **** connectors! Not to mention the wiring harness was zip tied to the fuel line the length of the boat!!!!
wiring is easy , you just have to know what you are doing. i like wiring a car in all one color.....black. to hell with the next guy
Wiring and carburetors have a special attraction for idiots...I don't trust any of either unless I've taken them apart and looked at everything.
Gotta agree with you. There is nothing simpler than wiring, and yet it is so common to see totally rigged wiring. It's not as if you need a lot of tools. A decent soldering iron, good crimpers, and shrink wrap.
Carburetors and wiring get different paths to perdition...give an idiot (typically, the former owner of your car) a carburetor, and he becomes a GENIUS instantly...yep, all them jets gotta be changed by 50% because the engineers were all wrong! Give the same idiot some wire and a soldering wire and he PANICS...and tries to settle the panic by working really hard to crimp everything together in a tangle of random pathways. Give him both, and you have a bonfire...
Oh, some of them can do amazing things with silicone, hard lines, and battery installations, too...not to mention audio systems!!!!
This is the wiring in a 1934 pickup i bought. No problem for me....ripped it out and rewired it.Been wiring cars since 1972,I have seen some of the most byGod insaine messes done to cars.some burnt up and some are running beleave it or not!
I tried fixin my 49 merc and ended up with an EZ kit. Did the whole thing in two weekends. awesome support, real ez... Hoop
