The movie "Southern Comfort" used Ry Cooder for the soundtrack. Interesting movie, about some National Guard weekend warriors that get messed up with some locals in the Louisiana bayou...

  2. Ry Cooder has always been one of my favorites.First time I ever heard him was a guest shot on Taj Mahal's first album in 1968.Still have the album.

If you folks don't know Ry Cooder, go to you-tube and type him in, and play the crazy, bout an automobile. Great champion of the ethnic indescretions as well. Well here's the deal. This was a necessary move by the BLM. The problem has been around for a long time. People were destroying the lakebed. Groups were going out there to the lake and street racing (fast and furious guys) and tearing up the lakebed and all kinds of other stuff..Leaving **** on the lakebed that dig into racing tires.... There really needed to be some sort of control. I am sure theres alot more to it than I know but it really is a necessary evil....
I know its not going to stop me from going racing or even to spectate....Lucky

He did Paris, Texas in the mid 80's. I bought a copy right after I saw the film. Rip offs from it have been used in ads and as soundtracks for news pieces about wasteland type places ever since. One of the first was a US ad for Memorex tape around '85 or 6, Leo Burnett agency.

  15. Cool read, thanks guys.

I dig when music and cars cross paths. Reminded me of when this crazy old R&B madman stayed with me for a few days in my home. I introduced him to a fun ride in a roadtser, he had a blast, and I got to give a an old soul man a neat exsperience that he never had but should have. Good times...

Ry is a cool dude....great post.

Now where is that "Black Godfather"? Hahahaha....

  17. Wim Wender made Paris Texas, although yes, Ry Cooder did the music score.

Wim Wender also made Wings of Desire, filmed in German, in Berlin, with Peter Falk (Columbo), and a really cool night club scene with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds playing live on stage The Carney.

Yessss! That's a beautiful movie. Cooder has also done a lot of stuff with Randy Newman, another of my favorite artists.

    Congratulations, that is very cool.
Check at your local Borders or Barnes and Noble. Some of them carry the NY Times. I would have it blown up to wall size.
