Now I have gone through all the pages that came up from searching and it seems that no one else has had this problem.

I bought my shifter for a th400 and the brackets dont fit, they sent me another set of brackets that are the same, needless to say, they dont fit.

I am waiting to hear from Race over there.

MY question is...is there anybody out there that has any fitment issues with this particular transmission?the brackets are short, meaning they fit real tight and there is about 7/16 - 1/2" of space between the shifter and brackets, the supplied bolts are way too short.
I know there could be casting differences in ******s. I even tried to grind the first set of brackets down to get em closer.

Please let me know if any of you guys have run into any similar problems,
I followed there instruction to a T and now I have a nice hole in the floor of my daily driver......its getting cold in here...
Thanks in advance for any help

I bought the shifter from Alex. He was great to deal with.

I just reinstalled the new brackets and took measurements, There is a 5/8" space between the shifter and brackets. The brackets are tight to the body of the trans.

I had the same problem with a Gennie Shifter for a Ford AOD. The brackets just would not line up. I ended up cutting down the side brackets and making new tabs for the ****** to get it mounted solid. Not a big deal, but when you pay the bucks for something that's supposed to bolt right on, it is frustrating.

I have the Gennie Shift for Ford AOD and the brackets fit just fine... I have the rear mount on mine... make sure you are installing it in the correct spot, they have side/top/rear mount brackets...

Real tight but should go, I thought mine were wrong too, till I had to file off some rough trans casting flash then JUST went on. I like nice tight stuff!

GM had a 375 trans that looked and walked like a 400. Could it be you got one of those. Find a picture of the oil pans and you can see the difference. Just a thought.

    Just a quick update...
The problem has been solved... Thanks to Race and Janette over at Gennie and Alex from Gambinos.
There was a missing hole on the first bracket set, the second set had it but I didn't see it.

These are all great people to deal with and the current special Alex is running can not be beat.As a matter of fact I am ordering one for my other car.
This has to be one of the nicest shifters on the market.
    Thanks to all that helped.

Glad you got the problem solved. The Gennie that's in my '32 has been giving good service for almost 10 years over 40,000 miles and hasn't been readjusted or the tension changed since I installed it. The Lokar in my wife's '37 is the biggest POS I've ever had the misfortune to encounter.

Call Gennie, they are about as cool as a company gets. If you get stuck, ask for Race - tell him I sent you. He'll help you out - he knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING they make.

Is there a difference between Chevy TH400 and Olds Th400???
Or would the brackets of the Gennie fit both??

    Thx
